Hi Jack777

If you have multi currency turned on, it will display the currency automatically.

Hi there jack777,

QuickBooks Online's Multicurrency feature makes it easy for small business owners to invoice customers from all over the world. Once it's turned on, your invoices will display the amount owing in CAD, as long as you've set it up as your home currency. Let me explain how this works!

Multicurrency is an advanced feature that enables you to track transactions in foreign currency in either QuickBooks Online Essentials or Plus. In order to take advantage of the extended abilities that you'll have with this tool, you'll need to turn it on. Please follow the steps below to Turn on and use multicurrency:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Account and settings.
  3. Select the Advanced tab on the left.
  4. Find the Currency section and click the Edit pencil to make changes.
  5. Set your home currency to Canadian Dollar.
  6. Toggle the switch for Multicurrency to On. Please note that once you switch it on, it can't be switched off and you won't be able downgrade to a lower version of QuickBooks Online should you want to.
  7. Click Done.

Once you've turned Multicurrency on, as @LeithG mentioned above, the currency on your invoices will display as CAD automatically. To see this in action select Print or Preview at the bottom of a new or existing Invoice. This shows you what your customer sees when they receive the invoice. You'll notice across from Balance Due that it shows the amount preceded by CAD

I know you'll make great use of the Multicurrency feature! Enjoy your day.

So my question is related to this one: how to change the symbol that is used on the actual PDF of the invoice. I want to see $ instead of USD and € instead of EUR. If I change the template  it doesn't change the symbol used unfortunately.

Hi LaurenPP. Glad to have you chime in on this post. I'll be happy to share more information so you can continue managing your business with peace of mind. At this time, there isn't an option to change the currency symbol in QuickBooks. I can see how this feature would be useful to you and others and I recommend sending feedback to our engineers. You can do this by clicking the Gear icon and looking for Feedback.

Let me know if you have other questions, I've got your back.
