Hello jackntools,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! I'm so glad you've joined us here to learn more about how to best use QuickBooks Online for your business. An estimate is an important business transaction between you and your customers, so it's vital that you know how to create one. Let me go over the steps.

An estimate acts as a quote or proposal for work that you plan to do for your customers. It might look like an Invoice, but it's primary use is to begin the discussion about job or project details with your customer. Here's how to create an Estimate:

  1. Hit the + New button.
  2. Choose an Estimate.
  3. Select the Customer from the dropdown.
  4. Choose a status from the Pending dropdown if applicable.
  5. Enter the Estimate Date and set an Expiration Date.
  6. Enter the line items for products or services you're proposing to sell.
  7. Add any other necessary details.
  8. Hit Save and close or Save and send to send the completed Estimate to your customer once you've finished.

Once you and your customer have agreed on the estimate, you can convert it to an Invoice in order to bill your customer for the work. All of the steps to do that are outlined in the article below, as well as details on how to update the status of the estimate, add an estimate to an existing invoice, and review or delete and estimate:

The steps are fairly straightforward, so I'm confident that you'll get the hang of creating Estimates for your customers in no time. I'll be here if you have any other questions!
