Question

I have one customer with multiple projects. I want to invoice each project seperately.

After the first invoice for Project#1 (under Customer #1), any subsequent invoices on other projects (i.e Project#2, Project #3 for the same Customer#1) has the total of the previous invoice and the new invoice. I want to invoice each project seperately. How do i accomplish this?

Hey business10,

Thanks for taking the time to describe what's happening with your invoices while using Projects. This QuickBooks Online feature is designed to keep your various jobs to customers organized, and having invoices from one project show up in the total of another isn't part of that. I'll get you started with some troubleshooting.

When you're using Projects, each project's transactions should be confined to the specific project, meaning what you've described isn't how the feature is supposed to be working. If you happen to have your projects set up as sub-customers to your main customer and you didn't use the Projects feature to do so, you'll want to consider how the customer is being billed.

If the customer is being billed with the parent customer, that means that all charges are allocated to that main customer. If the customer is being billed directly using the Bill this customer option, then you should only see the charges for that specific sub-customer on the invoice. You can review how your sub-customers are set up by hovering over the Sales tab in the left menu, choosing Customers, and then clicking the customer you need. On that next screen, select Edit to review the setup. You can learn more about managing your customers here: Manage your customer list

If you are using the sub-customer option to manage these jobs, switching to the Projects feature itself may be beneficial and help with keeping things more organized and streamlined. If you'd like to explore that option, check out this article: Change sub-customers into Projects

For the Projects feature specifically, I'm not seeing any other reports of this, so troubleshooting and gathering more details will help us with figuring out what's going on. The following is a series of troubleshooting that ensures there are no issues with the cache, browser, app, or Internet that might be causing a display issue or a mix up of information in your books. I recommend trying each of these and checking as you go whether you're still running into the same scenario.

If you're still running into the issue, please contact QuickBooks Online support. Our agents have tools like a screen share session or the option to accept screenshots to see what you're seeing. This can sometimes be a game changer in resolving these kinds of issues. Here's how to reach out.
