Question

I used the "clear" box on a payment and it deleted the whole invoice, how do I get it back?

Hello quinn5,

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community! This forum is a great resource for getting answers to your questions from other users and QuickBooks Team members such as myself. I'm here to help you with this question about having used the Clear payment option on an invoice payment and retrieving the associated invoice in QuickBooks Online.

When you use the Clear payment button on the Receive Payment window for an invoice payment, all it should do is remove the amount of the payment, not the entire invoice. With that in mind, it may mean that your invoice is still around, just that you're running into some sort of display error that's hiding it from your view. To tackle that, I recommend clearing your cache, trying a private window, and trying a different browser type. You can look for the invoice after doing those by returning to the Receive Payment window and selecting the customer to whom the invoice is associated or you can navigate to the Sales section of your books and use one of the sub-sections to find the invoice. The Customers option may be easiest.

I also recommend checking the Audit Log in your books. This log keeps track of all activity in your books, including whether a transaction is deleted. Given that, it should show you if the invoice was actually deleted. Here's an article about this feature: Use the audit log in QuickBooks Online

Finally, check out reports such as the Invoice List report or Open Invoices report through the Reports tab to see if you find the transaction kicking around there. You can also use the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page to search for the invoice number directly if you remember what it was.

Feel free to reply here and share if that does the trick or if you're still missing the invoice. Also, if I'm not quite on the same page with what you mean, you're welcome to share more details so that I can make sure you're getting the information you're looking for. I'm here to help.
