Question

If my invoice and estimate form the description is cut off and the form only shows amount and cost but nothing on the product or description, how do I fix my template?

Hey there cedarvalleyk9,

Making sure your forms are showing all the information you and your customers need is an important step in good communication and ensuring business runs smoothly. QuickBooks Online's form styles give you a number of customization options, including how the product/service and description display and with what you've described, it sounds like this could be a quick fix. I'll show you where to look.

To get to where you can edit your templates, it's just a few quick steps.

  1. Select the Gear icon.
  2. Choose Custom Form Styles.
  3. Click Edit in the Action column on a form.
  4. Navigate to the Content tab.
  5. Click the middle section on the preview to the right.

Here, you'll see there's a box to check off to show the product column and there are a few options to display the description. You can display it with the product/service, as its own column, or not at all if you don't check off either box. Make sure one of these boxes is checked off to include the description field on your transaction forms. If you have particularly long descriptions, I recommend considering keeping it as its own column as it'll display better, but you can try both ways to see which you like better.

Selecting Edit Labels and Widths also gives you some wiggle room with how wide or narrow the columns are. Check out the Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online article to learn more about customization options.

Give that a shot and then try a form again. Let me know how it goes! I want to make sure you're able to see the details as needed.
