Question

Is it possible to automatically classify customers as sub-customers (in order to bill with parents) when we import customers informations from Excel files?

Hello usergodleygourmandis,

Importing your information into your books is a great way to get started in QuickBooks Online with the least amount of effort possible. The less setup needed, the more quickly you can get to work using the program's features. I can absolutely see how the option to specify during the import process if a customer is a sub-customer and how they're being billed would be useful.

When you import the a list of customers into QuickBooks Online, the program uses information like name, phone number, address, and so forth to populate the customer profile. At this time, whether a customer is a sub-customer and how they're billed are not included during this process. In these circumstances, it means importing the customer list as normal, and then editing the customer profiles later to indicate they're a sub-customer and billed with parent.

To do that, all it takes is navigating to the Sales menu and the Customers sub-section after importing, then select a customer name. On the next screen, click Edit, and you'll see the customer's profile where you can make changes as needed.

I know this could mean more work if you have a lot of sub-customers to deal with, and I encourage you to share your feedback about the impact of this limitation. In doing that, our product development team can learn the changes that would benefit QuickBooks Online users. Here's how to leave feedback: How do I submit feedback? I also invite you to bookmark our QuickBooks Online Feature and Product Updates page to stay on top of what's new.

You can also explore third-party apps through the Apps tab to see if there are any that can meet this need. Each app listed contains a page of information, reviews from other users, and contact details for the app developer if you have further questions.
