Question

My clients say that their invoice shows a print/save button but not a pay now button. I accept pay by E-transfer to my email address. I don't know how to fix it?

Hi there goodlatch,

A clear payment process makes it easier for your clients to pay you, and for you to receive funds for the products or services you've sold. With QuickBooks Online there are a few ways to record the payments that you receive towards Invoices. Let me go over that with you.

Since you want your clients to pay you by e-transfer, including those steps in the Invoice Notes field, or in the body of the email that gets sent along with the Invoice is the best way to ensure that they know exactly how they can get you your money. After you've received the EMT, you'll want to navigate to the Sales tab, locate the Invoice, and choose to Receive payment. This is where you'll get to choose the Payment method that was used: CashChequeCredit Card, or Direct Debit. You'll choose Direct Debit since you receive payment by EMT.

QuickBooks Online also has a Payments add-on that you can get that allows your customers to pay you by credit card. This option would give a Pay Now button on an Invoice that your client is referring to if you choose to give that option. If you'd prefer to stick with receiving payment by EMT, simply contact them to let them know how. There won't be an option to Pay Now by EMT in the Invoice that your customer receives, and include the steps in future invoices that you send. If you'd like to give your customer the option to pay by credit card, let me walk you through how you can get set up with Payments.

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon in QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select Account and Settings.
  3. Choose the Payments tab from the left.
  4. Click the green Learn more button.
  5. Choose to Set up Payments
  6. Enter the relevant Business infoPersonal info, and Deposits account info.
  7. Hit Activate Payments to finish the set-up process. It's important to note that when you choose to activate Payments, you're agreeing to our Merchant Agreement, Privacy Statement, and the pricing associated with using this add-on.

If you have more questions or need some more help getting Payments set up or receiving your customers payments in-product, please let me know. I want to provide you with a few helpful articles as well:

Take care and have a great day!
