Hi bruce6,

Thanks for reaching out in the Community today! QuickBooks is a versatile program that enables you to get your work done faster. I'll be happy to help you enter a credit dollar value as a negative amount in QuickBooks Online.

1. Create your invoice.
2. Select an existing customer, or create a new one by entering their name, address, and email address.
3. Decide when you want to be paid by and set the date in the Due Date field.
4. Select Add product & service to add items or services you sold. Enter a description of the service.
5. Select Flat rate or By hour from the drop-down menu. Or select By item if you’re charging for a product. Enter an amount.
6. On the next line item, create a new item for the overpayment or credit. Click Add new. Give it a name and save it.
7. Enter the negative amount (for example, -300 for a $300 credit).
8. When you’re ready, select Send invoice to email your invoice.

This process allows you to apply a credit to a client’s invoice who may have overpaid on their last event. Note that every dollar amount entered as a debit must also equal the same amount entered as a corresponding credit, and vice versa.
