Question

1099 not emailed to my vendors

I e-filed with quickbooks and received an email that my 1099s were accepted by the IRS over a week ago. My vendors have not yet received the email with the link to view their 1099s. How can I get in touch with someone at QB to determine the problem?

You've got my back, ECR2.

Let me share some information about when your vendors can receive their 1099 forms.

When you invite a contractor to enter their W9 info, they can create a QuickBooks Self-Employed account for free. This way, they can view the 1099 form after filing them. Take a look at this link to learn more about this process: Invite a contractor to add their own tax info.

Moreover, contractor's who have submitted their 1099 forms will receive a confirmation email approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions. The date may vary from the day you sent the form. I'm adding this article about how your contractors' can view their 1099 forms: Fill out a W-9 and view your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Keep me posted on how things work out. I'll be here if you need more help.

I have the same issue, and since I am also one of the 1099 contractors I know the experience on both sides. I filed the 1099's, they were approved by the IRS - this was over a week ago. As a contractor I have yet to receive an email notification about logging into my account to view my 1099, nor have I received a hard copy in the mail. Both digital and hard copies were supposed to be sent.

Is this a timing issue, or should I have received at least the digital email by now?

Hello @RiseandC0.

If you use our e-file service by January 27, 2022, the 1099 forms will be mailed to your contractors to the addresses indicated in the contractor's profile by January 31, 2022.

Once the 1099s have been accepted by The IRS, contractor's should receive and email that their 1099 is ready and they can log in to view it.

Have you tried logging in to your account to see if your 1099 is available? All forms should be available by January 31, 2022 at the latest.

Let me know if you're unable to view your 1099 once you've logged in. I'll be here to follow up.

I am having the same issue.  None of our contractors have received the link to access their 1099s nor have they received a hard copy yet.  I received the Intuit email that the IRS accepted the returns on 1/21. It is now 1/27.  I have received conflicting answers from QBO support regarding the status.  Yesterday, I was told the emails were in a queue and will be sent out.  Nothing yet!

QBO, can you respond with an update?  Compared to last year's experience, there seems to be a delay of some sort.

Joining the thread to offer my help about 1099s, userreg.

As previously shared in this thread, 1099 NEC forms will be mailed to the contractors to the addresses indicated in the contractor's profile by January 31, 2022.

Please take note that the recipients don't have to receive the forms by the deadline, they just have to be post marked by the deadline. More details about this are discussed here:

You can also let your contractors view their 1099 online. Here's an article about this for more details: Fill out a W-9 and View Your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Additional references about filing 1099s are shared here:

Unfortunately, the issue is that Quickbooks has not sent an email to contractors to access the download their 1099s.  That is the question.  Where is the email with the link?

The steps outlined above 'Do Not Work'.

'After your employer or client submits your 1099-MISC to the IRS, you'll get an email when it's ready for download. Select the link in the email to sign in to QuickBooks Self-Employed.'

Guess what?!?! It's now 2023, and the same situations exist.   Contractors/vendors are not getting the email notifications, and those who do are unable to access their "free accounts."
I'm one of them - I issue a 1099 to myself. . . I did get the email and have changed absolutely nothing since last year, but this year am unable to access that account, instead being asked to set up a new account.  I do that, and it says I already exist, which I knew. . .  I've gone the whole incognito browser route, too.
QBO is going to have to figure out something better really quickly. Something that works. Something that recognizes existing information. Something that doesn't force you to recreate your account. Something that lets the W-9 upload actually work. Something where the link - if received - doesn't expire in seven days.  Heck, if I'm not ready to do my taxes right then, I'm not going to click on the link. It can wait until I'm ready to do my taxes.
I used to use Sage, and now that they have a cloud option I am seriously considering dumping QBO and going back to what worked for us.

I hear your sentiments, @Lizziebeth10. I know how important for you and your vendors to keep track of their 1099 in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'm here to share additional information to help you with your concern.

Your vendors or contractors won't receive an email of the file 1099 forms not until a week after it's filed. You'll want to check the status of your 1099 form in your QuickBooks Online account. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. Select 1099 fillings.
  3. View the status of the e-filing under Filing status. You can check below the meaning of each status:

Not Submitted: Haven't e-file the 1099s with the IRS.

Submitted: You have e-filed with the IRS.

Received by IRS: IRS has received the information. They are either processing it, or it has already been approved.

Also, Customers who have submitted their 1099 E-File forms will receive a confirmation email approximately a week after the IRS accepts and confirms submissions. You may not receive this confirmation until the middle of January or later.

You can refer to this article for more details: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, you can refer to this article for future reference if you want to print your 1099 forms: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

Ping me if you have clarification or additional information about managing 1099 and other forms in QuickBooks Online. I'll be around. Take care!

Thanks, but a) all of them show in Quickbooks as emailed and mailed, and b) I received the email within two days (and that's my personal email about my 1099, not the company email telling me things were filed).  Mine was filed at the same time as everyone else's.

I would say no worries, but actually lots of worries - for Quickbooks.
As accountants, we have workarounds - like downloading and emailing the 1099s (not my favorite), and reassuring our vendors and contractors that the form is also being mailed to their address on file.
I just really hate having to tell the people that "sorry, QB is screwed up and I can't do anything about it" - especially the young people just starting out who are doing their darndest just to figure out this whole tax thing. I can't see them as wanting to have anything to do with QB either in their own private lives (turbotax) or as they get into their professional lives and are looking for accounting software and services.
