Question

2021 1099 NEC is 3 vendors to a page but QB's 2022 only does it for 2 to a page?

Just tried to print out 1099 NEC for 2021 in my 2022 version of QB's desktop and it is only showing 2 to a page when the tax forms have 3 to a page.  Is QB's working on fixing this issue?

I appreciate you for joining this thread, @AP201. I’m here to help so you can successfully print your 1099s with three vendors per page.

Have you tried the resolution mentioned in this thread? If not yet, you can follow the instructions below to update your QuickBooks Desktop on the latest release with appropriate Ultra-Light Patches (ULIP) or Critical Fixes. Doing this will help you display and print your 1099-NEC in the new and correct format.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab.
  3. Select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  4. Select Get Updates to start the download.

You need to close and reopen your QuickBooks account when the update is finished. Once done, click Yes to install the updates, then restart your computer.

You can use these guides to E-file and print your 1099s in the program:

Apparently we have all tried your "fixes" and still having issues. I have one company on version 2018 not working, one on 2022 not working, three on 2022 working. I have had our IT consultant try and still not working.

Telling us the same thing over and over, or advise that we look at the IRS instructions is crazy. Assume we are all professionals and have a clue to what we are doing.

Telling everyone to upgrade, of course spending more money with you, does not work,

Maybe get your engineers to find an answer. The 1099s must be mailed next Monday.

So it is 1/23/22 - 1099s are due in a week and we still don't have an update?????? for the NECs

This should not be an issue since every other company has 3 part printing.

I can help you with printing your 1099-NEC form, @Marbury1.

You should now be able to print 3 to a page for 1099-NEC. All you need to do is make sure you are on the latest releases with the appropriate critical fixes.

Here are the releases required to print 1099 NEC forms in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows:

  • QuickBooks 2022/Enterprise 22 - R3_71 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2021/Enterprise 21 - R8_62 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2020/Enterprise 20 - RR13_39 (or later)
  • QuickBooks 2019/Enterprise 19 - R16_55 (or later)

Here's how to get these critical fixes:

  1. Go to the Help menu and click Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Options tab and click Mark All, then Save.
  3. Click on the Update Now tab.
  4. Make sure Critical Fixes is checked.
  5. Click on Get Updates.

When the update is finished, close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop. Click Yes to install the updates, then restart your computer.

Once the latest release is available, here's a reference on how to print your 1099s and provide copies to your contractors: Print your 1099 forms.

Also, you'll want to know how to access and print your other tax forms to save a copy for future use. Please refer to this article for the detailed steps: View and print payroll tax forms.

I'm always here if you have questions about your forms. Just let me know by leaving a reply below. Have a great rest of the day!

I've tried the Rest Update over and over again, still only 2 per page. What do I do? Time is running out!!!!

It is unacceptable that QB will not have this format printable until the day before the due date.

January 16, 2023

It is now January 2023 and this issue still is not fixed. I have obviously updated and downloaded everything I needed since these comments in 2022. Yet I still cannot print 1099-NEC forms correctly onto pre-printed forms. Any suggestions?

Thanks for becoming part of the Community and getting involved with this thread, rachela1. I'd be more than happy to guide you through the process of printing 1099s.

To make sure 1099s print correctly, be sure to initially update your books to our latest release. You'll also want to make sure you're using our 1099 kit.

After confirming your books are up-to-date, you can begin printing the forms.

Here's how:

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Vendors, 1099 Forms, then Print/E-file 1099 Forms.
  2. Create the 1099s.
  3. From your Choose a filing method window, click Print 1099-NEC.
  4. Specify a date range for the forms, then hit OK.
  5. Pick all vendors you want to print 1099s for.
  6. Press Print 1099.
  7. Double-check your printer settings for accuracy, then select Print.

I've also included a detailed resource about printing 1099s which may come in handy moving forward: Print your 1099 & 1096 forms

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely Monday!

Thank you for your reply. As I mentioned, I did all of the updates. There has NEVER been any mention that the QB kit has to be used specifically. There is an option to purchase the forms but there is nothing anywhere that says that in order to print 1099-NEC out of QB you MUST use the QB forms. That is ridiculous. I just spent a ton of money on pre-printed forms, NOT knowing that the software ONLY works with the forms provided by QB. It should work with all forms - the issue is that most forms print 3 per sheet. Apparently, the QB forms must be only 2 per sheet, which is why I can't format them.

Also, everything tells you to ALIGN but nowhere does it spell out HOW to align using the vertical/horizontal adjustments.

I love QB Desktop but this seems to be a recurring failure since it was a problem last year as well according to this thread. Thanks for trying.
