E-File 941 Status Remaining Submitted but not Processed or Accepted

The federal Form 941 (IRS) that I submitted on 4/1/2021 is still under the status of "Submitted to Intuit." All the other e-filings I have done say Agency Accepted. But this one has not processed or been accepted. The only other forms I have found in this community are if it has been rejected, accepted, returned, etc. I can't find anything about if it hasn't even been processed after submission. It is now 6/3/2021, so I don't understand why it has not been processed?? I hope someone can help me. Thank you.

Thanks for reaching out to us, marissah.

Let me help you in fixing the e-filing issue.

The Submitted to Intuit status means that the e-filed form has been submitted to Intuit and is ready to process. If there are issues or needs action on the form you submitted, Intuit will send an email about it so I suggest you check your email.

Also, it's best to reach out to our Support Team so they can review the root cause of this issue.

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter "E-file 940", select Let's talk, and choose a way to connect.

Here are some of the articles you'll want to check. These will discuss more on how to submit and check the filed forms:

Do you have other concerns. Reply to this thread and we'll assist you. Take care!

No emails have been sent to me that there is an issue. I was able to get in contact with an agent and all they could tell me was that it was submitted (what I can already see), but they offered no solution.

I know this is an old thread but did you ever get your confirmation emails.  I am dealing with the same thing at present.  I e-filed my 940 & 941 tax returns and usually I get a "Accepted Tax Return" confirmation email instantly and for sure in the same day.  But I submitted these returns on 1/4/22 and it's been 2 days and I still have not gotten an Accepted email.  I called support twice, first time the guy was totally clueless finally put me on hold and came back and told me that these emails come from the IRS (which past emails plainly are signed by QuickBooks team) and that the IRS was closed.  I'm like the IRS is "CLOSED" on January 4th?

The 2nd support call the lady put me on hold she also seemed clueless about what to tell me, she then came back and said I will be getting the email today, I reminded her it had been 2 days that I had not received the confirmation emails.  She said again I would get them today, still I have not gotten them but the day is almost over maybe I might but I am not hopeful.  I still feel like each support person I talk to is just trying to get rid of me because they do not know the answer.

I submitted the 2021 4th qtr form 941 and the 2021 form 940 on 1/4/22.  My forms are also "stuck" and the status STILL says, "Submitted to Intuit", and the description says, "Sent to Intuit for processing".  This definitely appears to be an Intuit issue and it is sad that Intuit can't seem to help us get this issue resolved!  I submitted the W-3 on the same day, and that was sent to the agency and accepted by the agency all on the same day!  Please Intuit, give us a solution on how we should file our 941's and 940's.  Should we resubmit?  Should we mail the IRS the paper forms?  What should we do?

Hi there, @MiRe22.

I understand the urgency of submitting 941 and 940 forms. And I want to make sure you can submit them to the IRS at the earliest.

Since your forms are stuck to the Submitted to Intuit status and already beyond the processing time, I highly recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can further check on the status and help you submit the forms.

To reach them, you can use these articles depending on the QuickBooks product you have:

You might also want to check out these checklists to make sure that you've completed all the tasks before the end of the filing season:

Should you need any assistance filing your other forms, I'm available here to help any time! Wishing you all the best, @MiRe22.

I have the same issue.  941 e-filed on 1/3/22, 940 e-filed on 1/4/22.  940 has been submitted and accepted by IRS...941 still showing "Submitted to Intuit."  I followed the advice to contact customer support, received my call back.  After an hour on the phone with an agent, I was told it is awaiting approval in EFTPS.  I don't understand that! EFTPS is for payments, filing forms.  My payment did go through EFTPS, and has been settled.  I was given a "Filing ID," and told I could check the status in EFTPS...this makes no sense. When I expressed my concern that he was referring to the payment, he again told me that the delay in my form 941 was because it is awaiting approval in EFTPS.   I need to be ensured this form will be e-filed in a timely manner!!!

I have details to share why the status are still Submitted to Intuit, ucceldon.

Every year, the IRS has a maintenance period during which certain types of returns are not accepted electronically. Accepting of electronic filing will be back online early this month.

This is the reason why the status still says Submitted to Intuit. We will definitely send you an email as soon as the return is accepted by the IRS.

You can also reach out to the IRS E-File Help desk for more information about the maintenance. Their contact details are provided in the lower part of this article: Handle Payroll E-file and E-pay Rejections.

Feel free to visit and save these articles in case you need more references when closing your books for the year:

As I posted in response to another thread, I found this information yesterday by completing a google search. My question now, why couldn’t customer support just tell us all this when we called in?? Or send an alert to users of payroll services? This could have alleviated a lot of confusion and stress for business owners. I checked this morning and yes, e-filing was down for maintenance and scheduled to reopen yesterday. It is processed as of this morning.

Mine still hasn't processed for my three different companies and my original filing date was 1/3/22

I am having the same issue. I am glad that I am not the only one that is having the issue. Maybe QB should have sent out an email that the IRS would not be accepting any forms until 1-12-23. I filed my 941 & 940 on the 6th and have been trying to figure out what in the world I did wrong. I am hoping that when things are opened up tomorrow all these forms aren't rejected. Got to love tax season

Any updates here?  It appears the IRS E File system opened for production yesterday (1/12/23).  It is now 1/13/23 and as of this morning, my 940 and 941 are still sitting in "Submitted to Intuit" status.  Anyone have their go through to the coveted "Accepted by Agency" status yet?

January 13, 2023

Yes! Our 941 was "Agency Accepted" last night (1/12/23) at 9:54 pm. They are probably working in batches. Hopefully all will go through soon.
