GoPayments showing doubled sales tax saved rate

Some time ago my QB GoPayments app (Android 15, latest version) began listing my city's "saved rate" as twice the actual rate. It shows 16.5%, when it should be 8.25%. The "location-based rate" is always correct. I suspect I probably caused this problem a while back when I was fiddling around with sales tax, and I've only now had time to troubleshoot, but for the life of me I can't find how and where to fix this.

Most of the time this doesn't matter because I do a large part of my work in the same city, but sometimes I need to take a payment when I'm not in the usual city. In that case the "location based rate" is incorrect because of my location, but then so is the doubled "saved rate".

In QBO I've followed the instructions to go to Taxes > Sales Tax > Sales Tax Settings, but I have no Custom Rates. I've even looked in the Merchant Center without success. And yes, I've signed out and back in on the GoPayments app.

See attached screenshot for what I'm seeing.  The second-to-last rate should also be 8.25%.

Since your sales tax is being doubled, it's crucial to examine the breakdown of these rates. Follow the steps below to check:

 

  1. Open your invoice and go to the Sales tax section.



  2. Click on See the math.
  3. Carefully review the sales tax breakdown to identify what rates are included.


 

Additionally, if you have problems with the added rates, I recommend consulting your accountant or a tax professional to determine whether these taxes are necessary and assist you in overriding the amount if needed.

Thank you for your reply, CamelleT. I should clarify that QBO (through a web browser or the app) is always correct.  The incorrect doubled "saved rate" only appears when using the GoPayments app to create a sales receipt or a quick invoice.  I'm seeing this incorrect rate prior to assigning a client, regardless of the product/service, and regardless of where I am.

As a test, I created a quick $100 invoice in GoPayments and applied the incorrect 16.5% saved rate. Then I viewed the invoice in QBO on a web browser and hit the "see the math" option. See attached for what I see. This seems to imply that it's the product/service that's adding the unnecessary tax rate?  If I hit "edit" next to that section it says "Taxable — standard rate. We'll apply sales tax based on location only." But that's clearly not what's happening. If I hit "Reset to recommended value" then it fixes the rate to the correct 8.25%.

  1. Open your device's Settings and navigate to the Apps or Application Manager menu.

  4. Press the Clear cache option.

 

For iOS devices:

  1. Go to your device's Settings.
  2. Select General, then iPhone Storage.
  3. Look for and tap the GoPayment app.
  4. Press the Offload app option, then reinstall the app on the App Store.
