It is SUPER annoying, isn't it?

I couldn't figure out how to make it disappear, so I hid the tax part of the menu bar, because we don't use it anyway.

Welcome to the Community space, @Susan9999. The pink dot beside the Taxes tab in QuickBooks indicates updates or tasks you haven't completed. I'll help you through this and resolve your inquiry.

If this is your first time using the program and you want the system to recognize tax-related activities in your account, you'll want to set up everything under the Taxes tab. This way, the system can adapt to what you're trying to command them and make it easy to track everything in QBO. I recommend checking this page for further guidelines: Set up your sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Now, if you're using the payroll function along with your QBO subscription, the pink dot indicates unfinished tasks within the Taxes tab. It's also a form of alert to help you be on time with the payroll or other tax activities. Visit this article to keep track of your payroll tasks: Year-end checklist for QuickBooks Online Payroll.

In addition, you can visit this article to assist in modifying your company set up in QBO: Get started and adjust settings after you sign up for QuickBooks Online.

How do you make the dot go away when everything is completed?

Thank you for joining this thread, Mabookkeeping. The pink dot on the Taxes menu indicates that your sales tax payment is due. You can turn off this reminder in the payroll settings, and I would be happy to guide you through the steps.

If you have already processed your sales tax but continue seeing the reminder, you can turn it off anytime.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. On the left panel, select Taxes.
  3. Choose Sales tax.
  4. Verify if you've added reminders for the sales tax state.
  5. Click Edit reminders and then select Turn off reminders.

If there are other taxes you haven't set up yet, you may refer to this article for more guidelines in setting up your sales taxes in QuickBooks.

Additionally, you can get updates on the sales tax you owe. Feel free to refer to this article. You can generate a report to ensure accuracy before filing your return with your tax agency.
