Question

Property Taxes

For some reason, my property tax payments are not showing up in the P&L report. I tagged the correct account. They show up in my 2020 P&L. I know I must have done something wrong by my investigation shows that I entered them the same way in 2021 as I entered them in 2020 and yet they are not showing up in the profit and loss.

Some years I make the payments in two installments some years I write one check. I've investigated back five years and whether I wrote two checks or one check, property taxes shows up in the P&L of all those previous years. Just not 2021. I am stumped.

Good morning CR56,

You have come to the right place for help! We usually recommend verifying and rebuilding your data, especially regarding discrepancies on reports. Most of the time, the system can detect data issues within the company file and the Rebuild Tool self-resolves the data integrity issues. So, let's start by verifying your data; here's how:

  1. Go to File, then Utilities, and choose Verify Data
  2. Once the process starts, there are a few messages that could appear, such as "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data" or "Your data has lost integrity," which indicates there is data damage in the file and following the steps to Rebuild Data is the next move to correct the problem.

If you receive the first message, there is no need to use the rebuild tool. But instead, hit the reply bottom below and let me know so we can tackle this from another angle. However, if you received the second message, continue with the instruction so the tool can repair the issues. Once that is completed, rerun the Verify tool to correct the problem and the Profit and Loss Report.

This article is an excellent resource for more information on the Verify and Rebuild tools. Let me know if you need additional assistance and if you were able to get your report running correctly. I will be here looking out to your response. Take care in the meantime.

I contacted someone who found that I have some corrupted data files. Apparently it's at 82% and he says I need to rebuild it or fix it before it hits 85%. The cost to repair it was prohibitive for me-$1300. I guess I assumed I had access to support because I faithfully purchased QuickBooks every three years since 2004. Is there some other way to repair this corrupted file or files?
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated,

Let's make sure you'll be able to repair your corrupted data files, CR56.

QuickBooks Desktop uses different types of files to store different types of data. You'll have to make sure you're opening the correct company file with a .qbw extension at the end of the filename. If you have already rebuilt your company file using the rebuild data tool but it's still showing as a corrupted file, use the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix the issue.

However, if the issue persists, you can proceed with other solutions found in this article: Fix Data Damage On Your QuickBooks Desktop Company File. Also, we strive to provide the best customer support for your needs. Learn from this article on how you'll get unlimited access to support for currently supported products: Cares Plan For QuickBooks Desktop.
