QBO multiple tax rates on one invoice

Hi everyone,

I just switched over from quickbooks desktop and am having a hard time having multiple tax rates on an invoice. I need to do this because my products, trees, are taxed at wholesale while my services, delivery, are taxed at retail.

Does anyone know how to do this?

In quickbooks desktop it was so easy. I could subtotal my inventory items and add a tax line item that would calculate the tax right there. It doesn't seem I can do this with QBO. Any help is appreciated.

Hi SteelRoots,

I can feel the challenge you have with your setup because a sales tax item is currently not a feature in QBO. In QBDT, we can just create one and add it as a line item. I think the desktop version is appropriate for you, and I'd suggest continuing to use it.

Alternatively, you can try finding invoicing apps that work like in the desktop version and can be integrated into QBO.

I'm just right here if you have other questions about invoicing in QuickBooks. You can also find references for QBO here.

This isn't solved!  Quickbooks is funneling more and more of us online and this is a pretty basic issue that should be resolved.

Explore this AST Filing and Reporting app to integrate with your QBO. You may find something useful.

I too am having the same difficulty and from what I have heard from a Canadian Counterpart, the international version of QBO does have that option so why would it not be in the US version?

Any update? We can not switch to online until this is resolved

Hello Sharpie2

I know how important to get some features added to QuickBooks that would help you run your business seamlessly.

As of now, this is still unavailable, and we're unable to provide a timeframe for when this will be ready. Still, I recommend sending this feedback to our product engineers. We can submit your suggestion to our product engineers by going to the Gear icon and select Feedback.

Also, we can check the votes added to this product suggestion. Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: Feature Request.
  2. In the Search field, enter the request you added before.
  3. Click the Search icon or press Enter on your keyboard.
  4. Find the appropriate request you submitted and open it by clicking the statement.
  5. You'll then see the number of votes on the left side. See the sample screenshot below.

Why has QBO not developed the multiple tax rates on 1 invoice yet?  People have been asking for it for years and it hasn't been implemented.  I think I'll be looking for a new platform instead of using Quickbooks.  They just don't keep up with the needs of customers.

It has now been 5 years and still no solution to this? For having it recommended to the product engineering team and giving users the feature to request this add-on it doesn't seem to have any effect considering some of the business owners in this thread have likely switched from QB or just don't even operate anymore. This should be a basic feature and is clearly necessary in dozens of industry types.

Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding the addition of multiple tax rates on a single invoice, @MODECO.

We recognize that this feature would greatly improve your invoicing process by providing clarity and accuracy, particularly for businesses operating in various tax jurisdictions.

While this feature is currently unavailable, we encourage you to share your thoughts directly with our product engineers. Your insights are crucial in helping us prioritize features that matter to our users. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Type in your feedback and suggestions about the sales tax feature.
  3. Click Next to submit them.
