I need to retroactively change an employees 2022 and 2023 w2 to a statutory employee? How do I do this in QBO? Do I also need to call IRS?

When I look for "Statutory" box in the employees profile, I do not see an option to click it?

Thanks

I understand how crucial it is for business owners like you, ColbyAce, to file accurate W-2s, especially since this is essential for ensuring the integrity of your tax data. I'm here to make sure you have the best details for changing an employee's 2022 and 2023 W-2 to a statutory employee so you can resolve this matter promptly.

In QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP), you can add statutory employees just like regular ones. To update an employee's 2022 and 2023 W-2 to indicate their statutory employee status, I recommend reaching out to the IRS directly. They can provide the guidance you need to handle the tax forms properly.

For more helpful insights on how to contact the IRS, feel free to check out this page: Let us help you.

On the other hand, if you need assistance fixing something (for example, amounts in Boxes 1, 3, and 5) on your employee's W-2, please don't hesitate to contact our Payroll Support team to request for a correction. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account and go to the Help (?) menu.
  2. Select the Search tab.
  3. Click the Contact Us button.
  4. Select a topic in the What can we help you with? page.
  5. Choose a way to connect (Have us call you or Chat with us).

Additionally, you might find it helpful to create a summary report to view your employees' totals and other payroll-related information. I’ve got a great article that can guide you through the process: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks
