We are a company using a lawn care service and I need to know if we should send a 1099MISC to them in Iowa. We paid well over $600.

    @1stchoicegutters  No.

    If you are going to send them anything, it would be a 1099-NEC, though there's a lot of ifs, ands, and buts involved in that question dependent on your business, their business type, the purpose of the service, and so forth.

    Hi @1stchoicegutters, it's important to understand your 1099 filing requirements.

    Form 1099-MISC generally reports non-employee compensation like rent, royalties, and other payments. To determine if you need to file and for helpful resources, check out the following:

    You should send them a Form W-9 and ask them to complete it.  The information they provide on that form will allow you to determine if you need to send them a 1099.  Requesting a W-9 is standard practice so they should be familiar with it.
