I work for a non-profit in North Carolina and I am trying to figure out how to submit a form 990 to the IRS. I am new to all of this so any suggestions/help I can get would be appreciated. When I searched the IRS website and it listed Intuit as an approved e-file company to submit an 990 to them but I cannot figure out how to do so.

Thank you for joining the Community, @goathouserefuge. I'm here to provide you with information about submitting Form 990 to the IRS through QuickBooks.

As of now, QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not offer support for e-filing Form 990. However, if your organization is eligible to file this form, you will need to complete the process outside QuickBooks. It is also advisable to consult with an accountant or financial advisor for more detailed assistance.

In addition, we can pull up and use these reports when filing the said tax form outside QBO:

  • 1099 Transaction Detail Report
  • Profit and Loss
  • Balance Sheet

In addition, you can read this instruction for Form 990 Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax in the IRS.

I also included these articles for more information about handling non-profit organizations and the 990 Form:
