The NC Income Tax for Aug 2024 that has a payment date of 9/16 is showing twice in our chart of accounts.  One is not linked to any tax payment it looks like it was mistake on Quickbooks part.  We need to have to payment that is not linked to the actual tax payment in the tax center deleted

There are two ways to remove unnecessary transactions, depending on the issue you're currently facing whether we can exclude or delete the duplicates, usa1. Let me guide you through the process.

Duplicate entries in QuickBooks happens when a transaction is created manually and also automatically downloaded from your bank, resulting in it appearing twice. To ensure your financial data is accurate and reliable, we can exclude duplicate transactions.

Before you proceed excluding the transaction, please refer to your bank statement to confirm which one does not link to your tax payments. Here are the steps to exclude them from your bank feeds::

  1. Navigate to your Bank transactions, then locate the blue tile where you downloaded your bank transactions.
  2. Find the transaction from the Categorize tab and click Undo.
  3. Go to the For Review tab, and find the transactions on the page.
  4. Check the Box to exclude them.
  5. Once done marking them check, and click Exclude.

Please know all your excluded transactions will be moved to the Excluded tab. You can also revert them by clicking the Undo button.

On the other hand, if the Automate taxes and forms feature is enabled, you cannot delete tax payments. However, if this feature is turned off, you can follow specific guidelines to delete a payment:

  • It’s manually recorded (non-electronic payments).
  • It hasn't been processed electronically.
  • Your federal payment is made at least two banking days before the payment date, before 5 p.m. PST.
  • The date of your state payment is before the lead time (state lead times vary).

If you don't see the Delete option, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support team. They'll be able to correct this mistake effectively and investigate why QuickBooks automatically shows twice in the chart of accounts.
