We have offices in two states. The taxes for our single employee in NV were paid in UT. Help? How do I correct this error?

Thank you for reaching out, Smile Adventures. It can be concerning to pay state taxes incorrectly, but there is a way for you to cancel the payment. Let's go through the steps to correct the tax payment error for your employee in Nevada.

If you processed the payment outside of QuickBooks and recorded it, you can cancel it by going to your Payment history.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes, then select Payroll tax.
  2. Click the Payments tab, then select Payment history.
  3. Locate the payment and click it.
  4. Select Delete payment.

However, if you have processed the tax payment in QuickBooks, cancellation of the payment is not available. I recommend contacting our Payroll support team to request a refund. Our team can pull up your account and check if the payment has been collected.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Select the Help icon.
  3. Click the Search tab, then enter Contact us on the search field.
  4. Click the Contact Us button.
  5. Select either Chat or Callback to speak with an agent.

Furthermore, refer to this article for detailed steps in canceling or deleting payroll tax payments and forms in QBO Payroll.

Additionally, you can check and confirm the amount of taxes you owe in QuickBooks, then file your sales tax return to ensure all the figures are accurate.
