What is the best way to prepare and file sole proprietor 1040 tax form using Quickbooks online?

What is the best tool or method for me to prepare my 1040 tax form that incorporates my Quickbooks online data? In the past I've used Turbotax but had a nightmare importing my Quickboooks online data. I had to export my Quickbooks online data to desktop Quickbooks and use desktop Turbotax. Is there a better way?

 

I see that Quickbooks online has a tax section. Can I do my entire 1040 filing from here, importing W2s and all my other tax forms and skip Turbotax altogether?

Hi Surkan, Currently, QuickBooks Online does not directly handle 1040 tax forms.

 

To achieve your goal, you can directly file your tax forms with the IRS or go paperless this tax season and file electronically.

What is the best way to generate a Schedule C for my 1040 tax return using my Quickbooks data? None of the links provided suggest any 1040 tax preparation tools that can import to Quickbooks online data to generate a schedule C. The only method I am aware of is to export my Quickbooks online data to Quickbooks desktop and then import the Quickbooks desktop data to Turbotax desktop. That is a very painful and difficult operation. Are there any other ways to automatically import my Quickbooks online data into a 1040 form tax preparation tool? I am preparing my tax filings myself, so advice to work with an accountant isn't helpful.

However, in QBO, you can still efficiently gather all the necessary data for your Schedule C by running a Profit and Loss (P&L) report. One thing to remember is that you have to organize your chart of accounts to match Schedule C.

 

Here's a brief guide on how to run the P&L report in QBO:

 

  1. Navigate to Business overview, then click on Reports; alternatively, you can directly go to Reports.
  2. In the Find report by name search bar, type 'Profit and Loss' and select it to open the report.
