Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I just received a call from someone claiming to be from Quickbooks Support Team.  He gave me phone number [removed] and said his name was Ronald.  He had an Indian accent.  He claimed they were trying to do an automatic security upgrade and for some reason it was not working on our system.  This seems like a scam.  I gave them no information but he did have the first name of the owner.  I told him I'd call back when I have time.  I asked him to clarify that he is with Quickbooks and he confirmed.  I have NEVER received a call from QB.  Is this a scam?

Hello, @carefree123.

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. I'm here to help share on how we can prevent these fraud calls from parties claiming to be affiliated with Intuit.

As mentioned by the previous replies on this thread, outbound calls from a QuickBooks representative should not ask for any personal information. If you keep receiving this kind of call, I'd suggest reporting this information through our email.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have other questions about fraudulent calls. I'll be around to help.

I received a call today from [removed] under Solucion Frikki. They stated they have been trying to contact us as we lapsed in payment. I checked my account info while I was on the phone with him and everything is paid. He wanted $499 and sent an email with a link. I called him out and said you're a scammer.

Welcome to the Community, smartmag.

Thank you for letting me and other QuickBooks users know about the call you received. I'd like to provide some additional info.

Unfortunately, as you mentioned, this sounds like an attempted scam. Intuit won't call you unless you have requested a call back from the Support Team. Also, if there's a problem with your account or credit card on file, your account will be put on hold and you'll either be notified via email or by a message the next time you log in.

Please know I'm only a comment or post away if you have any other questions. Take care!

Also received call asking to call [removed] stating that credit card on file with Quickbooks had declined.  Definitely a scam.  Caller id showed [removed]

Hello,

I had a person call supposedly from Quickbooks and told me my subscription was coming due and that I needed to pay it. Now (months later) the normal annual charge is coming through, and I looked at the previous -fraudulent payment which was higher than the normal amount and I called Quickbooks today (months later) and they couldn't find the transaction (probably fraudulent one) anywhere in the QB system. Well, I just called the bank and am trying to get in touch with the Fraud department to investigate... I can't believe a scammer is out there calling QB proadvisors or any QB customers running scams to get our money... saying it's a subscription renewal... He was indian sounding and caught me off guard. I guess we have to be prepared to get scammed from ALL ANGLES now a days...  Sad. BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS TRYING TO GET YOU TO PAY FOR QB SERVICES OR THE SOFTWARE...

I hear you. If someone calls you and ask you to pay I wouldn't pay anything even if it's legit. Always ask for an email and for the love of god do some research. Scammers are getting smarter so should us.

Just got this same call from "Brian" at [removed] extension [removed].  FRAUD!!!!  I had an experience with similar people a few years ago claiming to be QB support and they charged me 1,500 to fix my QB problems....but they didn't fix anything.  I got the credit card company to cancel the charge and I notified QB.

Just got a call on my voice mail "Hello this is Daniel Wilson  hope you're doing well. This call is in regards to your quick books annual service renewal which is due on the account and the card on file has been declined. Please call us and update your services on [removed]. Thank you and have a nice day.

I checked and had paid in September. Called them back and they said it was for "Data Reconciliation, Backup, and Manual Updates" - asked why I do not see any pending charge on my account? He said he would send an email from intuit. Told him I didn't want an email from him but would call Intuit directly to find out what was going on. He then confessed they were a 3rd party service. Asked him why he would leave a false message that 'my card on file was declined' when I hadn't used this service and he implied he was from Intuit? He then said I would not get another call from him.   Becareful -- scammers are very crafty!

I received a voice message from someone claiming to be from Intuit QuickBooks requesting a call back for a renewal.  I purchased the desktop version so there is no renewal, correct?  This is the message she left below:

"Hi this is Jessica calling you from Intuit quick book. I am the account manager. The reason for this call is in regards to your quick books account and the annual so it is due for a new(?) and the card on file has been declined. Kindly call us back toll free number [removed] and you can ask for Jessica. Thank you have a great day."

Is this a scam?

I've got your back, @AWAS.

This looks like an attempted scam. QuickBooks support will only call you if you have a requested callback and our phone support team doesn't have a direct phone number. I just received a call from "quickbooks" support saying they were notified of errors on their server from my PC. The man had a heavy Indian accent and wanted to log in to my computer. He had me pull up Event Viewer and said all the errors I had were from Quickbooks - although they didn't say anything about Quickbooks. Then he said he would join my screen to fix them. I told him he could walk me through it without joining my computer but he said that would not be possible.

So I said goodbye. Fraud?

Same thing happened to me.  He called me from [removed].  Also calling about security update.  He wanted access to my computer, but I knew better than to give anyone access. You always request a call from the  help tab no one should ever call you.

I got the same call!  I called quick books and checked with them, they said all my subscriptions are up to date.

be careful and always call first!

I received a call from the same group. I signed a contract with the group which was QB SERVICES.

It was for two years and included support. [Removed]. They were helpful with both IT and accounting issues for a couple of months. However I recently called and the number was disconnected. They were definitely an Indian Group. I also received help from a California Number.  I paid them approximately $1,500. I did think they were part of Quickbooks which they clearly are not.

I just got scammed by this same group! I called for tech support, they seemed very legit, and helped me solve the problem...but said that in order to fix the problem I needed to pay a 3 year subscription to prevent further problems, which I did. Problem was solved. I paid $3,000.00 for said subscription, However none of this correspondence is shown in my quickbooks account, or with the intuit quickbooks people.  Indian group.  None of the tech numbers work.  The bank withdrawal was for QB Services.  Having to change all my bank info now, SO FRUSTRATING!
