Call from "Quickbooks Support Team" - Fraud?

I just received a call from someone claiming to be from Quickbooks Support Team.  He gave me phone number [removed] and said his name was Ronald.  He had an Indian accent.  He claimed they were trying to do an automatic security upgrade and for some reason it was not working on our system.  This seems like a scam.  I gave them no information but he did have the first name of the owner.  I told him I'd call back when I have time.  I asked him to clarify that he is with Quickbooks and he confirmed.  I have NEVER received a call from QB.  Is this a scam?

Hello, @carefree123.

Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention. I'm here to help share on how we can prevent these fraud calls from parties claiming to be affiliated with Intuit.

As mentioned by the previous replies on this thread, outbound calls from a QuickBooks representative should not ask for any personal information. If you keep receiving this kind of call, I'd suggest reporting this information through our email.

Don't hesitate to let me know if you have other questions about fraudulent calls. I'll be around to help.

I just received a call that our credit card information needed to be updated for payment to go through. Upon checking our account all billing info is correct, the expiration date is valid and there is credit on the card. The gentleman had an Indian accent and said his name was Marcus and called from [Removed]. I did not give any credit card info to him as I believe this is a scam.

Just received call from [removed] stating credit card had been declined. Called back number and they answer as Quickbooks Support. Total scam.

Just received a call telling me my credit card did not go through for my subscription, which is 5-6 months away and the CC is still good for a few years. Here are the numbers [removed] and [removed]. Be careful and tell you staff.

This is still an active fraud scheme in 2022.  We were contacted at the end of November and were caught in the scam.  We are reporting it to our Attorney General in Kansas and our credit card company.  All phone numbers and emails associated with "ATS Quickbooks Support" are fraud.

As of March 2024, this exact scam is still happening.  I have received two calls from them this month with the same fake information from "Hazel" and from "Anna."

@MadisonRivergate-Chamber

You have QB Desktop, correct?

Log into your CAMPS and change your phone number. They may try contacting you via email but at least you can isolate those attempts.

I just received a call from Jennie X 757 at [removed] (she left me this number to return call) - number said "annonymous" when it came through on the phone.  I told her I thought my bill was already paid and I would call her back - she sounded pretty legitimate =(

From Email I just sent to [email address removed]

I am a CPA with clients using QBES and in having difficulty with a technical issue with QB access due to an incorrect email address I was told by the Intuit support agent that I needed to upgrade to the most current version.  He then arranged for me to make an upgrade one year payment of $2,547 to Windroot Corp as noted in the attached emails.

After getting a monthly QBES monthly invoice I questioned why I was paying annually and monthly.

This was curious in that the hosting via Right Networks and subscription to QBES Platinum were both being paid via credit card.

I checked online and with representatives from both Intuit and Right Networks both confirmed monthly billing and no record of this payment made or knowledge of Windroot Corp. https://windrootcorp.com/about-us/

I then looked up the company and called and got a person telling me they would look up the billing.  Subsequently I had two calls from the following phone numbers purporting to be representatives of Intuit.  Both later confessed to working for Windroot who says they are a ISP.

[Phone number removed]

When I told them I was going to disclose their scam to Intuit I received the attached “refund in full”

I am concerned that an employee who I contract through the QB support line is working to defraud your customers with this SCAM.

I am getting the following email from this Ronald guy too & phone calls.

"This is a reminder mail that your QuickBooks Data Services will be expiring tomorrow. Your QuickBooks Account will be suspended if there is no renewal on the account.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at [removed] or reply to us back on the same Email."

I called QB Tuesday to make sure my service which I already pay for would not be cancelled. They assured me no, I am good but he keeps calling and sending me these emails. It does worry me.

QB should send notices letting us know to be aware of such people. The way he explained, I need it otherwise I won't be able to use multi-user and my account would be no good. It would be easy to fall for this.

Someone named "Jerry" called from Quickbooks support to update my CC info for the "annual renewal fee, since the card we have on file has been declined..."  He called from [removed]...heavy Indian accent, btw, and told me to call [removed], ask for Jerry, to give him the new CC info...not going to happen...!

Got a call myself today from an 833 number. They were looking for the Quickbooks subscription holder for Accounts Payable.  As QB has never called us regarding updating a subscription I figured it was a scam.  I get the email reminder and I feel assured that I am not being a victim of scammers by going directly to Quickbooks without a middle company.

Got a phone call to and seriously sounded like fraud but live chat doesn't seem to care.
