Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

Hello QB Community; the business I work for recently upgraded from Quickbooks Desktop 2019 to 2022. Since then, we've had a few users report that whenever they open up Quickbooks, and Quickbooks crashes. This business relies on this software to keep balanced.
I've tried the Quickbooks Tool Hub features to try and fix the issue, but unfortunately the problem persists.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quickbooks several times with several QB technicians over the phone spending over 25 labor hours trying to get this work without crashing!
I've tried clearing the Google cache, and that didn't work.

I am also having issues with getting my email connected to invoices.

HELP!!!!! I have no clue how to fix this issue on my own. Has something like this happened to anybody else, or does anybody have an idea on how to fix this issue? I cannot be the only one who is experiencing this issue. When we had 2019 version, we did not experience any kind of crashing.

I would like the updates to this thread. If the answer is found I really need it because I am the support that the customers talk to in this instance and I don't know of a fix. I have tried every single help article on the internet by this point and nothing. Usually I can fix this stuff very quickly. Usually withing the first few minutes of troubleshooting if it can be fixed. Please keep the thread updated if a fix is found.

I know this is gonna sound stupid BUT
what I noticed is that if you open the company file, in other words double click on the company fil on your desktop, quickbooks will crash.
BUT!
if you open quickbooks, not the company file, in other words double click the qb icon and then choose the company you wanna open, the crash does not happen.
Some guy told me about that

Hello everyone,

I see the need for updates on the matter discussed in this forum.

Our engineering staff has been informed of the situation. They are now looking into potential causes and resolutions to this issue.

Although we are unable to give a turnaround time at the present, be assured that we'll come back and update the post as soon as we have more information.

If you have any further questions, please get back to us as soon as you can. We are always willing to assist.

Thanks so much for that! It makes me feel so much better now that I know. I really do appreciate it and will speared the word without a specific turnaround time added to it! Please keep me posted :)

Im an IT consultant and I'd say about half of my customers that use QB2022 Plus are getting this crashing issue (about 8 different businesses at different locations) so it is definitely an issue with R5 and not a lone case situation. One of them though got a yellow warning about a HTMLHelper Module, which caused a "Quickbooks Unrecoverable Error" (none of the other customers gave me an error, they just crashed and closed all apps that were open at the moment), so I had to quickly click on it before the error showed up and Run the add-on. That at least stopped the Unrecoverable Error message; but it makes me think this is all caused by the proprietary browser Intuit is using to replace Internet Explorer 11.

I would recommend you hurry up with a fix, most of my customers are talking about migrating to different software.

Thanks for putting a fire under QuickBooks to fix this issue.  Pretty soon I too will be done with the random out of the blue crashing and will look for alternatives.

June 21, 2022

I already replied to this one but it never showed up. Figures.

Seeing this issue as well with Win10/11 machines. It is 100% a problem with QB. Event viewer shows it crashing, then Chrome, Office Suite, or other random programs will crash all with the same NTDLL fault code of heap corruption.

QB has a memory issue and they need to fix it, soon. Happy to offer whatever event logs or other logs Intuit wants, but I'm not spending 6 hours on the phone disabling my firewall and clearing my cookies.

Just got our download version of 2022 from 2019 a month ago and have this issue all the time as well.

Hi there, @Sarasota Classic Car Museum.

Thanks for taking the time to follow along with the thread and share your concerns.

I can provide some troubleshooting steps that can fix this issue.

First, I'll share some possible reasons why QuickBooks Desktop stopped working. Below are some of them:

  • QBWUSER.INI file, which is an important file, might be corrupted or damaged completely.
  • Hard Drive corruption is another reason for the QuickBooks Desktop Keeps Crashing issue.
  • QuickBooks Desktop installation or the company file is damaged.
  • The Windows operating system you are working on has corrupted files or is damaged.

To isolate the issue, you'll want to make sure that you're using the latest release of your QBDT product. This way, you'll always get our bug fixes and security patches.

If the issue persists, you can run the Quick Fix Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This will run a quick repair on your program. Here's how:

  1. Download and install the latest QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Once done, open the file and select Program Problems.
  3. Choose Quick Fix my Program.
  4. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

To learn more about this process, you can check out this guide: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows

If the program continues to crash, you can follow the additional steps outlined in this article: Solutions for When QuickBooks Stops Working.

I'm also adding this article  to find out what your computer needs to run the best QuickBooks Desktop experience: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2019.

Let me know how this goes or if you have other concerns about QBDT. I'll be here to help. Take care!

June 22, 2022

Hi AbegailS - I see you have outlined fixes that have already been mentioned above but have not worked.  Are there new fixes available in the tool hub?  I don't see in your post how to fix this QBWUSER.INI file.

June 22, 2022

My QB is crashing as well as soon as I open it. However, if I close Chrome, I can keep working in QB, it stays open.

June 22, 2022

Hello, iveydido, BethFrisco, and CB Bookkeeper. I'd like to address your different concerns in this post

@iveydido and @CB Bookkeeper. It could be that the program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged, corrupted hard drive, damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file., or damaged Windows operating system.

You can follow the steps below to resolve QuickBooks from crashing.

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download our QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install.

When the installation finishes, open the tool hub on your Windows desktop.

  1. In the QuickBooks Tool Hub, select Program Problems.
  2. Click Quick Fix my Program.
  3. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

@BethFrisco, I'd like to know if you were able to follow the complete instructions provided by my colleague Tori B? It should normally lead you to where the file is. Also, you can rename the file as you want to name it. Since you're unable to find the file, you can follow the steps:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type "Run" into the search and open Run.
  3. Type C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8 and then Enter. If this doesn't open a folder, enter C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6 instead.
  4. Find EntitlementDataStore.ecml. Rename the file. You can name it as you want.

Please let me know how these things for you. I want to make sure you can open and use QuickBooks without experiencing any challenges. If you still need more help, don't hesitate to add another post below. The Community is here 24/7 to help you more. Stay safe.

I am being cautiously optimistic.  I changed the name of the QBWUSER file but not the other file.  I haven't had a crash since.  This AM I had 2 crashes.  So maybe there is hope.  I will follow back up tomorrow on this issue.

June 23, 2022

I started having this issue with the latest automatic update of Quickbooks desktop. It was absolutely fine before the update, and nothing else on the computer has changed.

I can barely work right now. QB crashes 5-6 times with no error message at all on startup, at various stages of the startup. Sometimes it will be OK until I actually try to do something, like create an invoice. Once it actually gets going and stays going, it's fine. My habit is to enter an invoice before going out on a job, then minimize QB so if the job changes on site, I can remote in and update the invoice before sending it to my customer. If I make it that far, it works, but I cannot continue to fuss with the program 5-6 times a day just to get a stable instance running. I need to actually go out and do the work.

I have run the Tool Hub quick fix and the full fix. I have run the file doctor. I have done *all* of this multiple times. I can't run my business this way.

This started with the last automatic update. Something was changed that made the program unstable. I'm running Windows 10 on an older machine, but it was absolutely fine before the update, which was only a few weeks ago. I keep hoping to see a fix posted or another update, but the complete and utter, irresponsible attitude on Intuit's part that it must be something on the user end is crap. If Intuit does not own this problem and FIX IT, I will be forced to cancel my subscription and find another accounting program. I need to actually do my work, not fuss with an unstable program.

I am with you.

Their IT department is aware of the issues - I am 100% sure of that, after getting so many complaints.

Please let me know which software you are considering.  I am looking as well.

June 23, 2022

From what I see, the Quickbooks team members all have different suggestions to fix the common problem we are all having - 2022 edition crashes as soon as you log in. We should not have to be trying all of these suggestions to figure this out. How about a patch Quickbooks or an email to say, just do this and here are the clear steps? Currently just leaving QB on and minimizing it when not using it. I dread rebooting for any reason. Crap, the other day the power went off and I spent an hour trying to get it to work again.

June 23, 2022

Exact Same Problem!  I have read the suggested steps, and many people have found it to be a waste of time to muck with the Tool Kit.

I need a fix.  Today I had 12 crashes.  Works now but who knows for how long.  Can't work like this.  How do I revert to QB 2021 while you fix your issues?

Need a solution now!!!  HELP

June 23, 2022

Hello there, @IT_Andy. Let's figure out, together, if it's possible to download the previous (R4) version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) after updating it to the latest one.

The QBDT software is updated regularly to give you a better experience and fix issues. When you've downloaded the latest release (R5), you can no longer go back to the previous one. That's why it's impossible for us to post a download link for the previous (R4) version of QBDT.

With that being said, I would encourage you to always secure a copy or make a backup of your company file. You can pull up the one you have prior to the update so you can get back to business while our programming team works to fix the latest version of QBDT.

Also, you may want to check out this article in case you need a reference to know what's new and improved in the latest updates of QBDT 2022: Release notes for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

Please don't hesitate to keep me posted in the comments if there's anything else you need or questions about managing your company file in QBDT. I'm always here to help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @IT_Andy.

QuickBooks Desktop R5 is the problem, not the answer. Fix it!

Exact same issue for me.
