Quickbook Desktop 2022 Crashing and stops working

Hello QB Community; the business I work for recently upgraded from Quickbooks Desktop 2019 to 2022. Since then, we've had a few users report that whenever they open up Quickbooks, and Quickbooks crashes. This business relies on this software to keep balanced.
I've tried the Quickbooks Tool Hub features to try and fix the issue, but unfortunately the problem persists.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quickbooks several times with several QB technicians over the phone spending over 25 labor hours trying to get this work without crashing!
I've tried clearing the Google cache, and that didn't work.

I am also having issues with getting my email connected to invoices.

HELP!!!!! I have no clue how to fix this issue on my own. Has something like this happened to anybody else, or does anybody have an idea on how to fix this issue? I cannot be the only one who is experiencing this issue. When we had 2019 version, we did not experience any kind of crashing.

I'm having the same issue. Just installed 2022 the other day. After log in it just quits. Also I have been trying to work on an entry in the bank feed and it crashed there as well. I haven't lost any data but it's probably going to happen at some point since there is no autobackup. It's totally annoying that QB is still such a buggy, glitchy program after I've been using it for 25 years...Would like to know if there is an update on the way to fix this, otherwise I'll go back to 2016. The hefty yearly subscription for a single user would merit a quick fix here. I do have 2016 on my computer as well, but I would not think that's an issue? I haven't migrated all my accounts to 2022 yet.

Providing you with the best software experience is what we aim for, @jhlasound.

I've got some tips on how we can prevent QuickBooks Desktop from crashing.

Here are possible causes why QBDT stop working:

  • The company name may be too long
  • There are damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • Hard drive corruption
  • Damaged program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation.
  • Damaged Windows operating system

Make sure to update the company file to the most recent version. Please be aware that once the files are upgraded, accessing them from an earlier version is no longer possible. After that, I suggest going through these solutions to help you fix the issue. You can follow them in the order shown to check which one is working.

  • Solution 1: Launch the QuickBooks ToolHub and run Quick Fix my Program.
  • Solution 2: Open the Tool Hub and start the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool.
  • Solution 3: Rename the file QBWUSER.ini.

Here's a module you can read for the detailed solution steps: Fix issues when QuickBooks has stopped working.

I'm also adding these helpful resources to know more about how to handle common errors in running your data or QBDT:

Thank you for yet ANOTHER copy and paste solution.  We really need a thumbs down button for these.

The work around so far is to turn off the Home Screen in QuickBooks.

The best solution would be to fix what got broken in the last patch.

We have been having this same issue - the problem started the same time that we received an email about the browser security issue within Quickbooks in early June. The solution it was to update the QB, so we did. Since then we have had this issue repeatedly.

I have done all the above solutions and it will still crash before opening the company file about 4 times out of 5.

This is obviously a big issue in this patch update and needs to be addressed right away

I appreciate you for trying the steps shared by my colleagues, MirandaT.

Since the issue persists even after running some troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. One of our agents there can do an investigation about this issue.

You can reach out to them through the Help menu.

You can always get back to this thread when things arise or if you have concerns managing your QuickBooks Desktop file.

We installed QB2022 in May, 2022 on two computers in our office. Both of them have Windows 2010 OS, but both are entirely different machines. Both of the pc's have experienced the unexpected QB closing that happens at mostly random times. Quite unexpectedly, we have found that if Outlook is opened  before QB, we get the unexpected disappearing / crashing problem. If we open Outlook after QB, we do not have the unexpected disappearing / crashing. Don't ask me to explain it, I can't. I just know that is how we solved the issue for our office.

We had the same problem for well over a month.  Here's a couple work arounds that provided some short-term relief:

1) Run as Administrator:  Windows Start button > QuickBooks folder > Right click "QuickBooks Pro Plus 2022" > More > Run as Administrator

2) Uninstall and reinstall.  After reinstalling, choose No to any offers to get the latest update.

Hopefully they'll get this fixed soon.

July 22, 2022

I have to try 3 or 4 times every day before I can finally work. This has just been happening for a couple of weeks. I've been using this version since January.

July 22, 2022

After i disabled the home page, it seems to be working much better, however, today I tried to print a check, program got hung up and closed again.  It's so frustrating.   You used to be able to "report a bug" under the "Help" drop down menu, but that no longer works either.  Keep getting a script error, can't go any further.

Apparently Quickbooks online support doesn't read any replies.  The solution to this issue (posted by another user, not Quickbooks support) is to uncheck the home page options in preferences.  Go to edit on the taskbar, preferences, Go to desktop view on the left panel, uncheck show homepage when opening a company file.

July 25, 2022

How do I get to the preferences if it keeps crashing on me?

I've been having this same issue, I thought it was just me. I initially thought it was because I had too many windows open, although that never happened before. Came here to find a fix, Im glad this question was asked.  Its been happening since I upgraded to 2022 Quickbooks Pro.

Thank you for taking the time to follow along with the thread and trying all the suggested steps by my colleagues above, @tourismcare93 and @blloydcpa

I wanted to ask a few more questions to get a better understanding of the issue and narrow down the root cause. This way, I can ensure we have covered all ends.

  1. Does this only happen to one computer? Or have you noticed this for all installations of QuickBooks on different computers?
  2. Have you tried using a different user both in QuickBooks and Windows?
  3. Is your Windows computer up to date?
  4. Have you noticed any error messages before the program crashes? If so, can you provide a screenshot of the error?

Any extra details you can provide will help me narrow this issue down as much as possible.

Due to the volume of this concern, this may need to be escalated to our Engineering Team for further review. Our engineers can investigate this matter and submit an updated fix.

If this is needed, an agent will need to perform all necessary troubleshooting steps to connect with our engineers, then submit the investigation to our team. Once submitted, you'll receive email updates and notifications of the progress and will be informed once it's been resolved.

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your replies. Let me know if you have additional questions or concerns. Chat with you guys soon!

1) I only have QB on one computer.

2) I only have one user license.

3) Windows is up to date.

4) No error message.  QB just closes out on its own.

Please do escalate this to your engineering team.  This issue should have been corrected by now.

"FIXED"

There are thousands of users having the same problems with the R5 update. So far, Quickbooks support can’t find the problem yet. After reading all of the issues that users were having, it pointed to where the Quickbooks R5 update switched from IE to Edge. Some say turning off the home page helped some. This got me thinking. Maybe the edge pop-up is blocking the URL that Quickbooks needs to access. So I went to Edge Pop Up Settings, which I usually have disabled in IE, but with these redirect viruses, I needed it on. I added "[*.]intuit.com" to the allow list without a quotation mark. So far, among my clients, no one has crashed within an hour. They have 43 company files that they switch back and forth. I'll keep it posted later today or tomorrow to be sure if this actually solves the problem on our end.

Updated:

As of now, I haven't heard anything from my client's problems yet. I'll know more tomorrow morning since they will be cutting a lot of checks. Also, make sure the default browser is set to Edge. If you have it under Chrome, you may need to find the settings to add it to the pop-up allow list and trusted sites. This may not be a fix for everyone, but I'm trying to find the problem since QuickBooks cannot figure out its own problems. I miss having full support through chat with engineers, and they usually solve problems. That was like 5 years ago. Nowadays, they're making you call someone to get level 2 who has no English, and it's harder for me to understand when I'm hearing impaired and still can't figure out their own problems. If I hear something from my clients tomorrow, if they still have issues, I'll continue to find a way.

Updated July 28:

I checked with my client this morning and he had cut 14 checks without crashing. Usually, he would get maybe 1 or 2 checks before crashing. Again, this fix may not be for you, but I do see something that was running "cefSharp.BrowserSubprocess". So that tool embeds "chrome-lite browser" functions into something. I'm sure it has something to do with how the Chrome-lite browser integrates with Edge or Chrome, but I could be wrong since I did not build this software. I would contact Intuit and ask for an R5 fix from some of the users who posted below. It seems like they got a workaround fix.

July 27, 2022

I just tried adding the [*.]intuit.com to the allowed site settings pop-ups and starting testing. I took me opening 4 different QuackBooks files and then it crashed. I was hopeful. If only Intuit could figure it out and distribute a patch.

Same. We updated in May from 2019 to 2022 and have had nothing but problems. It’s always crashing or saying it has encountered an error. I’ve tried the help line, uninstalling, I’m even getting a new computer to see if that helps. So frustrating. Just trying to do payroll is taking hrs because it keeps crashing. Ugh. I hope someone can help!

July 28, 2022

We are a cpa firm with 8 copies of quickbooks that are installed on the actual desktops and not on a server.  Client files are on the server.   This happens multiple times a day to everyone in our office.   It could happen 3 or 4 times in a row before the file actually stays open.

I also work at another office and the same thing happens there.   The difference there is that there is no server and everything is on the desktop computer.

It is extremely frustrating and should not be happening considering the amount of money that we pay for this program.

My theory since there doesn't seem to be a fix is that intuit want's us to change over to online version.   Quickbooks as a whole has been extremely frustrating to deal with lately.
