Question

Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

I'm trying to review the P&L for the year, and it keep switching me to modern view when I look at a detail transaction from the report. Then it changes the date and it's taking 3 times as long to go through the reports for the year. I have to do this with every client. How can I set all reports to classic view? Nothing I googled is working. I wish they'd stop changing the look just for the sake of changing it.

I received a letter that QuickBooks Online was going to stop allowing the option to use the Classic View for reports.  I just spent hours trying to make the modern view make the profit and loss reports I use all day long, every day, that I have used for years! And I cannot figure it out and I hate the modern view.  Can you please let it be an option to keep using the classic view?

I can share some information about the different views when running reports in QuickBooks Online, @MGWMI.

By default, when you run a report, it'll be on the modern view if it applies. However, if you prefer the old view, you can click on the Switch to classic view button. Here's a screenshot:

I understand how important it is to be able to set either classic or modern view for your reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO). This will be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it. I also recommend leaving feedback from within the account.

Here are the steps to do that:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.

  2. Provide your product suggestion.
  3. Click on Next to submit feedback.

You can check out this article for more information about providing feedback to make the program better: How do I submit feedback?. For now, I recommend checking our Feedback page for timely updates.

Also, I've attached a link you can visit to stay up-to-date with the latest news and features in QuickBooks: QuickBooks News & Updates.

Here's a reference about customizing reports in QuickBooks Online. It'll let you apply multiple filters to your reports to get all the information that you need.

Let me know if you need more information about the different views when running your reports. I'm always here to answer them for you. Keep safe, and have a wonderful day!

I too HATE HATE HATE the modern view. And I just got an email that all reports will be changing to the new 'enhanced experience' WITHOUT  the option to switch back to the classic view.  YUCK!

The 2024 filing season is almost upon us and every day I'm seeing more and more of my company files default to modern view. I was just checking my own books and it defaulted to accrual basis even though the company wide settings say cash. To make matters worse, the cash/accrual setting is hidden.

Now when I run any report I won't be able to trust the numbers. This is unacceptable. I've said for years that Quickbooks Online works great until they break something that wasn't broken before, then you have to factor the workaround into your entire process. This is an egregious example and clearly I'm not the only one pissed off about it.

It's pathetic that the requests for turning off modern view by default have been pouring in since early 2023 and Intuit still has done nothing. I imagine they are pouring all of their resources into rolling out the next price increase.

There's no other Vendor my firm pays more to than Intuit Quickbooks (not even close). Even the tax software (unfortunately owned by Intuit) costs far less. I can't imagine that any other software vendor receiving this much revenue from my firm would roll out a forced beta test that you can't turn off, then 1 year later still have no option other than "submit feedback".

I have said this many times.  I don't want default Moder View.  QBO does not listen, and moreover they don't care.

I am based in UK.  I agree with you, can't stand the new view and prefer the classic so every time I run a report I have to click to change to classic view. I heard QB was changing again so I think more report will open with new view.

Does anyone at QB survey to see if users want these changes?
If the new view was user friendly I wouldn't mind and I am not usually adverse to change, but I don't feel the new view is a good change.
Can someone from QB let me know why they made this change, I can't imagine for one minute it was made by users.
It wouldn't be so bad if you could make a change as a user that your account always opens in classic view so you don't have to keep switching.
PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS QB.

WARNING TO ALL USERS!! The Modern View and Classic View Report often to not match! The classic view seems to be correct. There is something wrong with the modern view. Modern view either omits or adds random items to the reports. I ran a report on a chart of account item for the current year, "This Year" and the Modern View added an item dated last year (11.16.2023) but dated it on the report as 2.2.2024 and when I clicked on the item in the report it showed it was in fact dated 11.16.2023. How and why did it redate this on the modern view report. When I switched to classic view the totals were correct. I wrote to QB via Feedback last July about this issue and have been using classic view since, but if QB is going to discontinue classic view we are all going to have problems with report accuracy. I sent them a message via Feedback again tonight but I urge all to check both versions of your reports now and start writing QB if you are finding the same issues.

I have found the same issues.  And about 1/2 the time I try to drill down into a particular balance, everything goes haywire and the screen flickers back and forth between the summary and the detail but nothing is clickable and I can't escape out of it. I usually have to kill the session or window, which is f*cking INFURIATING!

Ensuring seamless access to the desired report is my utmost priority, jmartini. I know how it feels to view a report where it repeatedly turns off and on or changes between different views. Let's troubleshoot and take the necessary steps to guarantee seamless report viewing.

Let's open your account using an incognito window and run the report. Occasionally, the accumulated cache and cookies in the system can become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl+ Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

Once you can drill down into your balance or your screen is not flickering anymore, return to your default browser and clear your cache to refresh the system. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.

On the other hand, I'd like to ask for additional details of your concerns. Could you please specify what report you generated? If possible, can you provide a screenshot of it? With that additional context, I'll be able to explore potential solutions to address this promptly.

For additional reference, you can customize your reports to view specific data. You can also memorize them for future use.
