Thanks for joining the thread and sharing your feedback about viewing reports in QuickBooks Online, @Giffola

I recognize the importance of having the option to default to the classic view instead of clicking it all the time when running reports. While this option is still unavailable, I suggest sending feedback to our product developers. They can review your suggestions and consider adding them in future releases. Please refer to the steps below:

  1. Hit the Gear icon at the top, then select Feedback.
  2. Type in your product suggestions.
  3. Click Next to submit feedback.

To get updates about the status of your feedback, you may visit the Customer Feedback page.

Additionally, while running reports, there are numerous ways to customize them. You can filter them to display specific accounts or customers or format the layout so that the correct data appears in the appropriate place.

Keep me posted if you have other questions in mind. I'll be around to lend a hand. Take care, and have a nice day.

This isn't opinion. It is FACT. It seems since this is an actual SITE WIDE PROBLEM and a HUGE MISS, that someone from the QB team would actually, gods forbid, ELEVATE this to the people who should do something about it.

Y'all are wasting everyone's time.

(And, yes - I have already gone the Feedback route.)

I wonder if we all send Linkedin connection requests with a message to the various executives & developers that asks for them to please enable a permanent on/off switch for classic/modern if they'd see it and do something about it.

I have been using QB for years desktop and online. This modern view is garbage to me. If an accountant designed or had something to do with this...fire them. Please allow the user/customer paying the fees that keep you in business the option to have everything displayed as classic view or modern view. A choice. Instead we have this garbage of switching constantly back to classic view because of the default to modern view.

Is this your way of trying to ram a so called improvement down our throats?

I implore you to come to your senses and give your customers the option.

Thank you

This is a "classic" example of programmers not being end users and having no clue how accountants, bookkeepers, and business owners use the reports. This so called modern view is a useless, cluttered mess. A colossal fail. Dump the modern view and return the classic view...or provide a way for users to select what view that want to use.

The new look adds a whole level of complications and the formats are busy. QB should have spent time with users before implementing these changes. We process the accounts for over 20 charitable entities, whom also have access, and none like the formats. Please allow users to turn on/off the new look.

I'll start this off with what I like about Intuit. They have clearly invested significantly in improving their online ledger. Hands down, this is the best small market choice. For the most part, it's a pretty powerful way to produce results that give valuable insights to your business. I like a lot about QBO.

With that said, the reporting is significantly behind the times. Most users will take the online reports generated, download them into Excel, and massage the data for better analysis. That can't be lost on Intuit. So, why can you not create a proper Excel export? The data is text delimited which requires me to perform a Text to Columns to define a column as dates or numbers. If you don't perform this action, not only will the date fields be unusable in a pivot table or other filtering process, but the numbers in the "amount" field will not add up properly (until a Text to Columns is performed). In order to perform the text to columns, we have to start out by unmerging the report title. It's a very inefficient process, yet one in which the solution is not that difficult. Most online SAAS products allow users to export to a true Excel format. I have to imagine it would only take one engineer to solve this for you in a week. What do you do instead of fixing the biggest problem known to Intuit? You change the view around and call it "modern". Not only is there a lot more "noise" created that limits the viewability when compared to the classic view, but you try to force me to use it. ALL reports now default to this pathetic "upgrade" with no option to toggle to the superior classic view??

I've offered my "feedback" from within the system which I'm sure goes into a black hole. Instead of submitting freeform feedback, how about something simple like an online poll of whether we'd like to have the option to switching back to classic view by default? Maybe I am in the minority, but I doubt it. Not many of us will take the time to submit feedback. I believe the reason is that we don't like to waste our time. There's no categorization to collectively hear our voices on a topic unless you come here and see all of the "likes" received on a topic. I'm sure I'll have plenty of folks who agree with me and yet I'm also certain that I'll get some sort of "thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. With the new modern view, we have improved the reporting features available within Quickbooks. We still offer the option of switching to classic view on each report, but we don't really wanna take the time to offer you the option of defaulting to it because we don't care whether you like it or not, you're gonna have it forced on you."

The modern view doesn't make reporting better. It simply changed the view of the same data we've always gotten. You don't add more options, the export to a true Excel format is still not available. This was definitely a step backward by Intuit. Now, I believe it is the driver of the latency issue. QBO has been VERY slow the past couple of weeks. Our transactional data has not increased substantially. I could be wrong, but I believe it is the new modern view reporting that is dragging down the performance of QBO. Please give us the option of quietly fixing your mistake by allowing us to view reports in classic only.

I used to be called for user surveys. I gave plenty of feedback with documented examples. Pretty soon, Intuit developers stopped reaching out. Since about 2010 they have don't seem to care about the user community. QBO, just as the Mac QB Desktop, suffers from "Microsoft Syndrome". Windows 11 still has a DOS foundation. QBO code still has a great deal of legacy code in it. Maybe "Modern View" would be more functional if there were a more modern "code". Also, many of the coders have never worked in the "real world", just in the Silicon Valley "tech fairytale" world.

July 18, 2023

Yet again QBO rolls out a "feature" nobody seems to want and then gives the standard answer of "leave feedback" to get it changed. But it never happens. There are "features" that people want that are years old on the community forum that have NEVER been addressed with an actual solution. If I didn't have to use QBO I wouldn't but they are really the only game out there for a small business using Mac computers.

Totally agree!!

Another issue/problem I am having with Modern Piew

How do I SHARE and create an scheduled email with this new Modern View?

Previously, with the better, less cluttered, Classic View I am able to do that. All I need to do is navigate to my Custom Reports, select the edit option, this creates a separate drop down. Then is a option which is selected off by default, called SET EMAIL SCHEDULE. I turn it on and I can create an automatic email report that will generate and send without any further interaction.

Is Modern View incapable of performing this task, and can you not share the less than optimal Modern View reports with other shared users on your account like you can in Classic View?

I do not see any option available for this in Modern View. The only reason I am doing this in Modern View is it has ONE option that Classic View does not  and that is I can capture an audit log with addition details and "created on X date" that I cannot quite do in Classic View.

Hi there, @BFoxSLF.

This appears to be a duplicate post. My colleague has already provided an answer for you. You can refer to this link for your reference: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/reports-and-accounting/modern-view-email-reports-automatically/01/1291184#M191056

Feel free to get back to us if you have other QuickBooks concerns. I'm here to help anytime. Stay safe, and have a great rest of the day.

I HATE modern View!  Now I can't even find the option to switch back to Classic?  Is it gone?  Am I stuck with Modern forever?  I clicked on the 'Feedback' button to share my thoughts on this, but now my QOL screen has been frozen for the past 3 minutes because of it...so the feedback route is seemingly useless.  This is beyond frustrating.

Hi there, userdavid12.Know that we only wish you to experience the best kind of service while using the program.

I can certainly see that you've already used to using the Classic View while using QuickBooks Online (QBO) as it has more options than the Modern View. However, we are unable to make it as the default.

Alternatively, you can let our product team know that being able to switch back to different interfaces is important for your business by sending a request. To do so, you can follow the steps below outlined below:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Aside from that, you can also track the feedback you've submitted and check out the status from our Customer Feedback Page.

Let me know if you need additional assistance performing specific tasks in QBO. I'm always here to help you out. Keep safe!

@AbegailS_ Or YOU could do it.  I believe you get a paycheck for taking care of customers?  We don't.  Giving us instructions to submit exactly the same thing we've complained about HERE is both insulting and infuriating.  You only have one speed, which is backwards.  EVERYTHING the developers need to know is spelled out in excruciating detail in this string, and has been for many months.

Feeding us your canned "I can see..." pseudo-empathetic and genuinely useless instruction lines about submissions that NEVER get a response or reaction or fix, accomplishes nothing.

Have you ever noticed your stats?  Hundreds and hundreds of users posting this or that problem, your responses, and out of all of them, you have 20 (TWENTY!!) THUMBS-UP.  Ugh.  Wouldn't you rather spend your life making a positive difference?  How about trying to submit this whole string to the Executive Board?  Maybe they have some clout with the developers?  Just a suggestion.  I have learned over many years to expect absolutely nothing from QBO for cooperative solutions.

Well said!
