Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

I'm trying to review the P&L for the year, and it keep switching me to modern view when I look at a detail transaction from the report. Then it changes the date and it's taking 3 times as long to go through the reports for the year. I have to do this with every client. How can I set all reports to classic view? Nothing I googled is working. I wish they'd stop changing the look just for the sake of changing it.

21+ year user here in all version.  IN Online, Tying to drill down for expense details from the P&L and couldn't.  After an hour of troubleshooting, I see it's defaulting to "Modern" view.  What the heck.  What's modern about it and how is it "better" when the totals aren't "hot" and you can't drill down to see detail.Yet another of the gazillions of things that pro users HATE about the online product.  "Classic" view had better stay as an option or I'll be taking my OnLine clients back to desktop.  What benefit/improvement is Inuit claiming to give use with "Modern" when it offers zero functionality.  It's only giving me totals I can already see in the P&L.

The new modern view is killing us! It was bad enough when you moved the recurring transactions from the individual client to a separate location where I have to search the client again to see the recurring template. It is slowing me down tremendously. Now, when I open the client the side bar is only showing recently viewed clients! I need all my clients to be viewable like it was before. Whatever you are doing is terrible. You are destroying the program. We need to be able to get the classic view back. It was perfect! Why are you messing it up? Are you intentionally trying to get customers to switch to another service? If you are trying to do that then you are going to be very successful.

I hate Modern View as well and much preferred Classic View.  I've noticed this over many years, QuickBooks Online likes to just shift things around for no particular reason.  Modern View is a pain, as is having to click "switch to Classic View" every time I look at anything.

I recognize how you feel about the recent updates. I'd recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. With this, they'll see your suggestion and consider it for the next program update. I'll gladly input the steps below:

 

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Below the Profile column, select Send Feedback.
  4. Enter a brief description of your feature request.
  5. Once you're ready, press Send.

Please just STOP telling us to give feedback (we do to no avail) and STOP, STOP, STOP telling us how to customize reports.  THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM.  

 

I have a legitimate question.  I know that you guys are the ones taking the hits and are on the other end of all this frustration, anger and annoyance.  I know you can't do anything about it.  BUT - is anyone from the customer care team letting the developers know the feedback that you're receiving?  Our feedback is falling on deaf ears apparently.

I could not agree more. Modern view is really awful and has a multitude of problems. I can see how it could possibly be beneficial in some very rare instances, but the default should be in Classic view with a button that says "Try Modern View" instead of the opposite. QBO has more pressing issues that the engineers/developers could be working to fix instead of creating new stuff. Such as, can I get the cursor to automatically begin in the top left-hand box for Customer or Vendor when entering a new transaction? Some of us like to zip thru entries by using keyboard shortcuts and tabbing. Having to revert to using the mouse is crazy time-consuming. Can you guys focus on basic website functionality like that instead of major unnecessary changes that almost no one is asking for?

I could not agree with you more!  There are so many functional improvements that could be made that would really improve usability.  How about focusing on making the existing system rock solid before making changes for the sake of making things different.

Absolutely HATE the Modern View.  Difficult to read and does not download to Excel in a format as professional looking as the Classic View.  INTUIT ... PLEASE revert reports back to Classic View and don't mess with a good thing!

QBO. Has this error of "forcing your customers to use a less useful format and taking additional [slow] clicks to see what they really want to see" still not been resolved? This is an easy one for one of your junior programmers. 

 

As a business owner, our experience with QBO has been excruciatingly poor: Extremely slow, poor response times to complete transactions, being confronted with pop-up sales that we don't want or need (which also slow us down and, should be needless to say, features that our bookkeeper is not going to buy on behalf of the company), unexpected/unexplained changes to screens, being forced to use additional clicks (i.e. time) to get to the features/reports that we need. I could go on and on but now I'm spending more time that I shouldnt have to on QBO.

 

Accounting software should be an efficient tool to record business transactions. QBO is not and you should really re-assess what your purpose is if not that. It takes our bookkeeper three to four times longer to do simple transactions. We are now forced to find an efficient tool to record our business transactions.

I'm replying to my own post here, but I talk to myself regularly anyway.  Back in 7th grade I was referred by Sister Barbara as being a "ring leader".   I've only gotten worse in my old age, so I am going to resurrect that characterization by enjoining all QBO users upset with the Modern View and Intuits lack of response to the complaints as a call to action.  What action?  Might I suggest that you submit weekly, via the gear icon/Feedback, your request to have functionality to set your default view to Classic.  Do it now! And keep on doing it.  Week after week until we get what we want.  I am about to submit my 3rd feedback.

Hear, hear, DudleyD! The fact that they have received overwhelmingly negative responses to the recent changes and have not responded at all is clearly their way of saying "We don't care, just give us your money". Will begin being a pest myself as well!

This new modern report is absolutely terrible. I loathe it. The old report worked perfectly and was super easy to glance at and see all of your numbers.

 

I hate this so much I am probably going to switch to another company if they don't address this. It makes using the product miserable.

Agreed.  On the attempt to make QBO a platform for novice business owners, the automation and childish changes to the available views have created a nightmare for accounting professionals that have to undo months, if not years of mistakes when frustrated users realize they are out of their depth.

The Modern View should be an option.  To me this is a simple fix.  Not complicated.
