I run a solo beauty business where I provide hands on services, as well as retail of beauty products. I am having a difficult time determining the difference between these two options when recording my expenses. For examples I buy wax to remove hair, but I also purchase nail polish to do nails - whats the difference?! Thanks so much.
I have expenses for a client that we need to track against money received for the purpose of paying vendors on their behalf. We have coded the actual expenses against an expense code. However, I cannot invoice against that code. I invoice against other expense codes. any clue as to why it will not let me?
I am going from Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2017 to QBO Advanced. I find it strange that I can do more customization on Desktop than I can on QBO. I don't want to start using QBO until I can get my Invoices to look similar to what I had or at least until I get it to what I can deal with. So far I am not liking it yet. Attached is the Desktop Version which it has the customer's name, address, and phone number. There isn't a phone number listed on QBO Advanced. There are more custom fields available on Desktop. It is needed for my lawnmower repair shop.

Please see attached screenshots. I am trying to subtotal Column Q at every change in column E. I have sorted the sheet A to Z. I go to Data Tab and then under "outline" group I click on "subtotal". The subtotal dialog box opens as shown. The first drop down is correct "at each change in SOURCE NAME" I then select Sum...no problem. The problem is the Add Subtotal to: I only have one column to select from and I need to select column Q "Open Balance". All the instructions I see indicate all columns should be an option in the "Add Subtotal to:" box. How do I choose the column I want to subtotal? Additionally the drop down arrow "At each change in:" will only display the column I have selected a cell in. So I can't select anything there either.

I'm having issues with the Projects tab not accurately showing the Project balance related to deposits. A customer paid two invoices with the same paper check and its recorded under one banking deposit. I used the Split feature to split the deposit between two projects, but both projects are showing the entire amount as a payment to the project which reflects a higher total payment amount than actual. Am I inputting something incorrectly?
I sometimes have to create a purchase order that needs split into classes (dept 1, 2, 3, etc). However when I enter a purchase order on Quickbooks Pro Plus 2022 you have select one class in the header (not available to pick class in grid) of the purchase order. But the items I am purchasing need to be split up among 3 classes, not applied to one. How do I do this? For example, we are purchasing paint but the paint expense needs split up among 3 departments. I know when I receive against the purchase order I can change the bill to reflect this but it would make the work flow so much easier if it was done in the purchase order.
Our inventory right now is a mess, duplicate items with different part numbers, negative quantities, a naming convention that has no rules, etc. and I've been tasked with rebuilding the system. This mainly means creating a new universal naming convention, taking a fresh inventory, and plugging in the values (basically creating a whole new inventory) Our plan is to implement this at the beginning of the fiscal year, so this gives us 7 months to set it up. I understand that all the parts are linked to invoices and estimates, so deleting everything is not the answer (and also impossible). Our plan is to eventually make everything inactive once all the old invoices are paid, and any new invoices or estimates will use the new naming convention. I am going to create new item names, take the inventory, and use those items on all new estimates beginning Jan 1 as if it's a whole new business, completely ignoring the old names. Hello there, I would like to keep tracking of purchasing/using of spare parts in maintenance job in my manufacturing company, such as replacing parts of machinery. Quickbooks doesn't have feature to support this. I am thinking a workaround method by creating each machine profile as a customer, and and just create invoices to the machine when using the spare parts to the machine. When everything is checked, write off these invoice as expense by using GL. Do you think this method will work? or any better solution to this? About Other Quickbooks apps, which one would think is suited best to manufacturing company? Thank you
Says they offer free Guided setup but how do you set up the appointment to get this set up. I am coming from QB desktop. and have some questions that the guilds I found on line is not helping me with.
My bank account is connected to quickbooks online. Do I still need to upload receipts for purchases that came out of the bank account or do I only upload the receipts for purchases that were paid cash?
Hope someone can set me straight here! Having read these 2 resources on Recurring Invoices & Unbilled Charges, I'm under the impression I can setup a recurring invoice to automatically bill our members for 1) their fixed recurring quarterly dues & 2) other variable misc charges that we post to their Customer accounts. I tested this by:1) Creating a recurring invoice for $1/day and checking "Include Unbilled Charges" on the Invoice options.2) Adding an unbilled charge for $2 to my account3) Ran the recurring invoice for the past 3 days. The invoice that came through shows:* Total New Charges $1* Balance forward $2* Balance Due $3 But when I go to pay it as the Customer, the payment amount defaults to just the $1.Even after entering payment details and accepting recurring payments, the invoices come through showing $3, but only $1 is charged. Hello all,We recently migrated Enterprise 2023 (Backup/Restore) to a new workstation to be the new server.We had two licenses and added a third.We get error messages telling us to have someone log off when only one other user is logged in.We should be able to have three (3) simultaneous users, i.e., two workstation users and user on server computer.I updated the licenses on each computer using the Manage my licenses option. Checked the license (F2) and it show three (3) which is correct.Question 1: Is the server using a license if QuickBooks isn't open, but Server Manager is running? WE have other workstations that need access as well, although not at the same time.Question 2: One of the workstations changed to Multiple user option on it;s own
Hello,I was wondering how do you record transaction going out of our credit card/bank acct/etc & going in. From what i found online is that all transaction going into my bank/financial account will need to be categorized as regular income (assuming other income & not sales income) transaction regardless of loss/profit within that. Then I will need to separately record the losses as an deduction expense and make sure it's itemized and not a standard deduction as I found that you cannot standard deduct gambling losses. if all this is true, my one question is how should i record/categorized money going out when doing the books each month since im categorizing all money going in as income transactions. EDIT: or the better question is what type of chart of account should i use for each of them Thank you
Hi, We are facing some issues trying to open QBW files. We had this company's data files saved on a network server. But this server was not tuning on more. We got recovery the company data and I copied this data onto another PC where is installed QB Pro 2015 ( this PC used to access the data through the network drive on the server). When I try to open the file by clicking directly I receive this error: When I try to open from QuickBooks:Please! Help

I am trying to change the widgets on the Business Overview page of Quickbooks Online. But, the Customization option/toggle has never appeared. Am I missing something? Is there a toggle somewhere to make the Customization option appear?
just recently this started happening; when we import checkes and we are in multi user. the admin switches to single user and QB says the admin is still logged on in multiusers. All other 4 users have logged out of QB and the system stays in multiuser mode. He tries again to switch to single users and the system gives the same answer (admin still logged in multiusers) and freezes. the admin has a user name and has all the credentials as the admin; logs in as a user and is able to change the system to single user and imports. He also changes back the system into multiuser mode so everyone can continue to work. Has anyone else had this problem switching as the administrator ?
I cannot add some items to invoices. They are non-inventory items. I have invoices to send but I am missing some items because I cannot pull them into invoice or a purchase order. It's inconsistant, and item that I select sometimes populates invoice, sometimes not. I called QB last Friday and they logged into account and could replicate problem. They said it was happening to other accounts too. After spending an hour on the phone with help desk, I got an email later in the day telling me they closed the ticket because they couldn't replicate the problem they had already replicated!!! I called QB Monday and spent 40 minutes on hold before my call was disconnected. I called QB Tuesday and spent an hour and twenty minutes troubleshooting problem only to be told the engineers will have to fix it.This is only our 3rd month using QB, it's our peak billing period and we cannot invoice in QB.
