I have been doing the VAT returns online through Quickbooks until April this year when all of a sudden HMRC can't seem to recognise my MTD
So can I have two income streams in the one QB company? And will MTD for income tax happen automatically from April 2026?
Original commenter did not share additional details
Previously working however now not ! Spoke to Inuit they advised using the website
Can you please confirm how MTD for Income Tax will work with someone how has a sole trade and rental income. They will have to submit two reports to HMRC each quarter. Will they have to take out two Quickbooks subs or will they be able to submit it using the same subscription?
Am I doing something wrong here? I am a full time PAYE employee, so my £12570 is already taken up. My income is around 38k and change. My self-employed income is 14k with around 2k of allowable expenses, making it £11457, so a total of less than 50k, which is when I should start paying the 40%. But QB self-employed is telling me to pay £4583 on my £11457 which is 40%. In my profile, I have omitted the £12570 personal allowance. When I enter it, and answer the question "Have you received or sent transfer allowance amount?" whatever I answer returns an income tax amount of either £4583 or zero. I'm confused. What have I done wrong?
Afternoon all, I have spoken at length with QB today and it appears they have no plans to support MTD for CTR in March 2026. QB is not on the authorised HMRC list at the moment and whilst their competitors do support this, the only way QB can do this is through a QB Accountant software. So if like me, you are self employed, micro entity, then you'll either have to use a QB accountant or use a different platform to submit your end of year CTR. My understanding is that in 2026, HMRC require tax return to be submitted digitally and not using their online forms. I cannot fathom how QB has not developed this, their major competitors have and I'm now migrating to FreeAgent who are approved and have a MTD CTR system in place.
Hi, I drafted a CT600 using a blank template in pro tax, when i go to efile it is not showing up any ixbrl accounts and when i go to add documents there is no option to upload anything. How do i get the ixbrl accounts added so i can file the return?

Will Quickbooks facilitate the addition of non sole-trading data to the annual submission, e.g. investment income, high income child benefit charge etc?
I keep getting the message Stay connected to HMRC Reconnect with HMRC to carry on tracking your tax deadlines and submitting digital VAT returns. Every time i connect and grant authority it does not work.

I've tried all the suggested fixes. Called the helpline and disconnected and reconnected to HMRC - Nothing
Hello,I am closing my company next month so need to do 2 things:- Cancel my quickbooks subscription at the end of Feb which I believe I know how to do. How much notice do I need to give before I am charged for March VAT subscription?- I need to submit my final VAT return mid-February which is earlier than my end of quarter (March 31st) usual VAT filing date. Am I able to submit a return mid-period like this? I seem to think that I can't submit the return until after the period end date. Is there a way around this?Thank youMichael

Is anyone here using QuickBooks for the UK's Making Tax Digital who is not VAT registered, please? My accountant is telling me to move to MTD to be ready for when I have to switch so I'm just researching options. But the first thing I find with QuickBooks is that everything on the site insists you must be VAT registered. Since I know that's no longer true, I'm rather put off. Is it just that the site is poor? Thanks,Willliam
You mention that it is necessary to have to reauthorise the connection every 18 months and that it is quick and easy and only takes a few minutes and that you will send us a reminder when it's time to do so. Just to confirm, we have not received a reminder and all we need to do is enter our login details. Once we've done that, we'll handle everything else. Can you please send me a reminder so that we can enter our login details so that you can handle everything else rather than me having to spend over an hour on the telephone to HMRC trying to sort this. Many thanks
I use MTD to claim a quarterly vat repayment in Quickbooks. My last repayment had 0.43p of interest. How do I allocate this in quickbooks?
Since April 2019, Making Tax Digital (MTD) rules have only applied to businesses with a VAT taxable turnover above the £85,000 threshold. But the government plans to roll out this digital transformation across the entire tax system. This may now change the way your business operates, so we want to make sure you're fully informed of the changes. You can find our MTD FAQ page here for more.If you still have a question, please feel free to post below and an expert will answer you.
Hello, Im a sole trader (not vat registered). I have self-employment income from: 1. A company that I invoice monthly.2. Royalty payments for music (every 6 months).3. One rental property. Since this is three lines of income, which QB package would I need to be able to work with this for MTD making tax digital and submitting everything together to HMRC via self-assessment? It seems the QB Self Employed doesn't do MTD or allow property alongside self-employment, so do any of the others allow property to be included? Thanks.
I want to be able to log any charitable donations that I've made, and be able to add Gift Aid receipts or 'log' that the charity I have donated to will claim Gift Aid. Can I/How do I do this please?
