Our company owns life insurance policies on the company's three managing partners. These are permanent policies that build cash value. The cash value is an asset of the company against which we could borrow if necessary. Or we could surrender the policies in which case the corporation would receive a (potentially taxable) check for the current cash surrender value. We've had these policies for many years, but they have never been reported/tracked in QB. How do we enter the cash value as a company asset in the chart of accounts? How do we maintain the balance as it increases or decreases every year?
I just checked the option in Preferences to activate Class Tracking, and it then presented me with 3 options on what to track: Account, Item, Names. So now I'm confused. Here's our environment: We are a Chamber that puts on a number of "events" ... activities to draw people into our community and raise funds for the Chamber while encouraging people to stay and explore and have fun in our town. Each event will have several different types of expenses ... advertising, printing, food, performers, insurance, etc., and we want to assign a class to each event so that we can track the cost and the income for each event to help us better budget and plan, and to know which events are worthwhile. So the plan was to assign a class to each event, and capture the aggregate cost of all the various expenses associated with each event (class). I'm not assigning a class to each account, if this means GL account. "Advertising" is a GL account, but each event might have several Advertisin
Hello,I like to have access to written instructions for any new program I am working with, so I can write notes in the margins and easily refer back to it when needed. I admit to using some of the QB instruction books on Amazon for the QuickBooks itself, but nothing is available there for QuickBooks Accountant. Unless I have not found the correct location, there does not appear to be an orderly system of finding equivalent information online. You can certainly search individual questions or topics, but I can't locate anything similar a table of contents that organizes the available online information so you can follow a logical sequence to learn QB Accountant. Am I missing something?
On Monday morning, I tried to connect with an expert because I was facing an issue (a problem that, according to my searches in the community, QuickBooks has been unable to solve for five years). I spent the entire day on my computer but could not get in touch with any expert. For 45 minutes to an hour, I kept receiving an automated message saying: "Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten about you. You’re still in line to talk to one of our experts."Today is Thursday, and I still haven't been able to reach an expert. In the meantime, I've been trying to contact an expert every single day. I can't even begin to describe how frustrated I am. This is my fourth day of sitting at my computer, trying to connect with an expert. Each time, I wait for an hour, only to be disconnected. I try again, wait for another hour, and it disconnects once more. I also tried to find an email address to reach out directly, but I couldn't locate one. Has anyone else experienced this issue before?
The Square app for QBO disappeared without notice sometime between Dec 5 and Dec 11, 2024. I called to report the problem on Dec 13, I was added to an “ongoing investigation” and told that I would receive an update via email on Dec 26. I have not received any email or status update since. Please help! End-of-year accounting tasks are extremely important to complete and impossible without App transactions. Can the previous level of functionality be restored??
QuickBooks states on its website that the multi-monitor setup can only be used with 100% scaling. Why is there not the option to use scaling? Why cant screens be opened up on different monitors so that the program can be utilized across additional screens with the ability to have different resolutions? It seems that so many other programs have this ability, yet for the high cost of ownership, the QuickBooks Desktop program has yet to catch up with the other programs that are out there. Intuit, when might this seemingly simple and hugely helpful feature be available from the QuickBooks Desktop Program? Please let the community know!!!!! Thanks,
Quickbooks Forum 261124 Change Filename from Mustang to MartinDear Fellow Quickbooks usersI am using an old version of Quickbooks, only for some rental properties, and a very small business I have. I don't do anything online. No need. Up til about 5 years ago, I kept books on Quickbooks for a rental property I owned, Mustang. I sold the property but kept the quickbooks file on my hard drive.. Recently I began renting out another property, Martin.So I resurrected the Mustang file and renamed the company to Martin and began recording transactions. But now I find that when I try to log in, the company file is still named "5033 Mustang Way QBW". What's more, I can't find the Mustang file on my hard drive to rename it.I need some help to find the file and rename it so I can find it when I log in to Quickbooks.JC
I received an email from a Security Company telling me I need to be PCI compliant due to a Law from 2006. Is this a scam? I do not handle any credit card transactions with clients. My only credit card business is by E-Invoice through Intuit Quickbooks online merchant account. I don't ever receive any customer card number and my website is for information only and customers can't order through my site. Do I need to be PCI compliant. Jim. (BBPC2)
I am creating a new QuickBooks Desktop company file for an existing business at start of their new fiscal year. Do I have to re-enter all open invoices at the end of their fiscal year or can I enter a balance only for each customer?

Hello! The companies I am working with is considering shifting from QB Online to QB Enterprise. With this in mind, I have the following questions: 1) How elaborate is QB Enterprise's User Access Feature? Say we have a sales team, can we allow them to ONLY make estimates and invoices but NOT EDIT? Can the management also restrict their access to financial statements? 2) How can we transfer our files from QB Online to QB Enterprise? What data can we transfer seamlessly and what data in QB Online that cannot be transferred? 3) I am currently working for 2 companies, both of which are using QB. If we were to buy the licenese key for QB Enterprise, can both companies use them or only 1 license key will work for one company? 4) In QB Online, only the sales invoice and the estimate can be customized via importing a style from MS Word. Can QB Enterprise do this as well? If so, can it also import custom styles for sales receipt? In QB Online, it doesn't have that featu
I am new user of Quickbooks desktop. After I added the new vendor, and willing to add a new transactions of Purchase order with selected vendor, there is a box shown " Vendor Not Found" and buttons Quick Add/Set Up/ Cancel. I cannot input any purchase order, bills or payment for any vendor added. What should i do? Thanks
We run a Homeowners Association and are using Quickbooks Desktop 2020. Assessments are $480.00 a year and may be paid in full every January or spread over 4 quarters with payments of $120.00 each. We currently send statements to all members in January. Those who decide to pay in full never see another statement until the following January. But those who pay quarterly must be sent statements every quarter. We would like to add a $5.00 service fee to people who pay quarterly. It is designed to be an inducement for them to pay in full in January and cover the extra costs we incur processing quarterly payments. I know how to offer a discount for early payment, but that would reward everyone who already pays in full in January. My question is, how can we automatically get Quickbooks Desktop to include the $5.00 fee and account for it? I am trying to figure out what versions of Quickbooks Desktop (Pro, Premier and/or Enterprise) will allow me to enter one or more bin locations for inventory items and also let me print pick tickets with those locations when I want to fulfill an order? I sold part of my business in early 2023 and the buyer is paying me over time with monthly payments.I created an invoice to track the monthly interest charges and their payments. So each month, I change the date on the invoice and add the interest for the current month. However, when I look at my 2024 P&L report, the amount under Sales for this transaction looks to include all the payments since the start of 2023. I'm guessing I need to start a new invoice for each calendar year in order for just that year's revenue from the sale to be reported in my end of year P&L. Is my assumption correct? Hello,I installed the latest updates to Desktop Enterprise 23 two days ago, restarted the server, and now have several errors and issues. This is a Windows Server 2012. So basically when any company file is opened, even a sample one, a screen pops ups that says "Somethings not quite right." The Home page loads, and the company file seems to work, but certain functions like "Taking Payments" causes and "Unrecoverable Error" and QuickBooks crashes. I contacted support yesterday and worked on this for four hours to no avail. - QuickBooks Case# 151.173.012.99 We ran every kind of QuickTools Hub repair, did a full uninstall/reinstall, a clean uninstall/reinstall, I created a new Windows profile to test, we created new users, Reset Updates, I ran System File Checker and DISM, checked DNS and flushed/registered it, changed server, but nothing is working. I am seeing reports of this issue recently on these forums and reddit, so it feels like something broke with this update. The
Hi all, I'm the new controller for a company that is using Quickbooks Desktop. I'm going over the chart of accounts and they use many sub accounts. Is there any way that I can print some type of report that shows which parent account the sub account is a member of? The only way I see so far is to open each account card which is very time consuming. Thanks in advance.
About a month ago I received an email requesting I upload documents to verify one of my business accounts, I did not feel comfortable clicking the link and uploading sensitive documents (there was also no information about this in my actual quickbooks account) so I forwarded it to Intuit’s security asking if it was legitimate. I never received a response. Now I am suspended from my account. I have called twice and no one seems to know how to help, one person had me go back and upload the requested document, which I did, and said she was initiating a reinstatement email which never came. I called back the next day and spoke to someone who had me go in and also upload a copy of my ID and said then all I can do is wait and there is no guarantee they will grant me access back into my account. I need to get ahold of someone who can help me, who is in account verification, so I know what else I need to do. I need access to my accounts.

Several times in the past week I've logged in as admin to QB Desktop Pro 2021, and I get the pop-up saying "You haven't logged in to your Intuit account for 89 days." It's annoying enough to have this useless message every 89 days (since there's absolutely no value in signing in), but at least stop presenting it every two or three days.
Has anyone experienced something strange where, while batch modifying classifications in QuickBooks, the customer name randomly changes to another customer's name? I've encountered this issue twice in the past few days—once with a customer and once with a vendor bill. At first, I wasn’t sure what was happening, but now that it has occurred a second time, I know for certain that I didn’t do anything else besides modifying the classification and location.
One of our users tried to upgrade to 2024 from 2023 a few days ago and got a message that there was not enough disk space to do the upgrade. The message "Insufficient storage for upgrade. to continue clear space in the drive where the current version is installed"That PC has 108 GB free disk space. The data files are on a server with 336 GB free space. What is the work around to get quickbooks to see the free space ?
